Chad Brooks Chad Brooks, founder of Brooks Hospitality, LLC in Pittsburg, Penn., has been honored as the Distinguished Young Alumni Entrepreneur by the Oklahoma State University entrepreneurship program. The Distinguished Young Alumni Entrepreneur of the Year Award recognizes an OSU alumni who started a venture and achieved success at a young stage of life, creating an example of excellence, drive and determination for students who aspire to be entrepreneurs. “Chad Brooks’ success story and the value he placed on starting young to pursue his entrepreneurial dream is an important message for our students and our program,” said Nola Miyasaki, Norman C. Stevenson Chair and Director of the Riata Center for Entrepreneurship. “He exemplifies the courage and conviction it takes to start a venture at a young age.” As the founder of Brooks Hospitality, Brooks owns 11 Qdoba Mexican Grill franchises. Brooks Hospitality has 25 employees, and Brooks oversees the company’s development, operations and marketing activities. He was elected as one of four Qdoba Franchise Advisory Council representatives from 70 franchise groups in both fiscal year 2010 and 2011. In 2005, Brooks won the Qdoba Restaurant Corporation award for highest market growth percentage. Brooks is a second-generation restaurateur whose family owns and operates four Mazzio’s Pizza franchises in Oklahoma and western Arkansas. Brooks holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in accounting from OSU. In addition, he holds a dual MBA and a Master of Management in hospitality from Cornell University. He is a certified public accountant, and before founding Brooks Hospitality, he served as vice president and tax manager for Bay View Capital Corp. in San Mateo, Calif., and as a senior tax analyst for Deloitte & Touche in San Francisco. Brooks and several other entrepreneurs, students, faculty and staff were honored at a banquet held by the OSU School of Entrepreneurship and the Riata Center for Entrepreneurship to celebrated the program’s first year of entrepreneurial excellence. Born in Greece, Vicky was one of six children. She finished the British Institute in Salonika, with a proficiency degree in the English that led her to teach children.
“I like the Council because is about mutual respect, cooperation and shared goals between women of the United States and Europe,” Vicky told me. “I like to help mentor younger women to grow into strong professionals.” Born in the second largest Greek city of Salonika, the capital of Macedonia, Vicky was one of six children. She finished the British Institute in Salonika, with a proficiency degree in the English that led her to teach children. After coming to North America and traveling extensively through Canada and the U.S., she settled in New York City. Here, she pursued her education in film at New York University, while working for a film lab and distributor, acting as a liaison between the U.S. and her native Greece. She studied Hospitality Management at N.Y.U., entering into the hotel business and becoming a hotel partner in 1978. She later received her Bachelor degree of science from Adelphi University on Long Island, with a focus on Business Administration.
