At the Office: Poltava: Iryna and Elena Kushnir
Iryna and a co-worker, Elena Kushnir (yes, Elena was at our wedding wearing the purple dress with her boyfriend, Aleksey who she hopes to marry, Elena caught Iryna's bouquet). Today is Saturday ( our wedding was yesterday!)...which means Iryna is going to work on our wedding holiday and Elena is coming in on her day off. They are helping out their boss/owner prepare the quarterly financial reports for the government. Iryna has the equivalent of a master's degree in economics/accounting. She works 50 hours a week (a standard practice there) 5 days a week and earns the whopping salary of $200 per month. That works out to just under $1 per hour. Imagine the salary one makes there if you never finished school!! Iryna is well paid and is middle class there. Are we lucky we live in Canada? What do you think?
