How do I use it?
A few example feeds are included by default. Open ACast so the main
menu is displayed. Press the menu button and select update all. This
will update all your feeds. You can view the feeds by selecting Feeds
How do I search for new podcast feeds with ACast?
In the main menu, press the ‘Add’ button. In the text field enter
‘twit’ and press the ‘PodGrove’ button. Press the first item in the
list presented and then Ok. Go back to the main menu and then press the
‘Feeds’ button. Press the item in the list which you just added. Press
the first item in the list to play back that item, the content will be
streamed over the internet. You can also long press an item to download
it to the phone and listen to it offline later.
How to add a RSS URL?
You can add a RSS feed manually by entering the URL in the Add view
search field. Press the plus (+) button and then press the Add item in
the menu list. Acast will then try and parse the URL. Please send me
the URL if ACast would fail to import it and Ill see what I can do.
How do I play video?
Add a podcast feed which contains video content, e.g. diggnation. A
video icon is displayed to the right of all video items. Showing
information about a podcast item displays the link which will be used
for playback, a video file usually ends with the suffix .mp4 or .3gp.
Press the item you want to watch (in filter view or item view) and the
video player will start. Video content can be streamed or played
downloaded.
How to pause current playing item with headset button
Headset button support have not been enabled as default until recently.
You may enable headset button support in the settings under ‘Player’.
How to store podcast feeds during an uninstall/install
It is possible to store the current podcast feeds in an OPML file on
the SD card. Go to ‘Add’ view and press the menu button. Select Export
to local OPML. Podcast feeds will be stored in
/sdcard/acast/acast.opml. After a re-install you can load last podcasts
by going to ‘Add’ view and selecting ‘Import local OPML’ to (re)import
previously stored feeds.
How does “delete outdated content” setting work?
During update of a feed, any downloaded items, which does not exists in the latest version of the feed, are deleted.
How does “Resume opening player” setting work?
When “play” button in main menu is pressed latest/current item is resumed.
How to add a radio channel manually?
You can add channels manually by entering a m3u, pls URL in the text field and then pressing +, Add item.
If I enable ‘resume on headset button’ and press headset button audio does not start?
When phone is sleeping/screen-off pressing the headset button will not
resume audio immediately, phone has to be woken up first. This can be
achieved by pressing the menu button once. This could in rare
circumstances start the audio playback for an incoming call (Send me an
email with the ACast version you are using if this happen to you).
Remember the Milk support?
You can add Remember the Milk todo lists by copying the Atom task list
URL in the web browser. Paste the URL in ACast ‘Add’ search field and
press the add (+) button and then ‘Add item’ from the popup menu.
What does the icons displayed during playback mean?
There is a plug icon when ACast connects/buffers the media over the
Internet. When ACast starts playing streaming media the icon changes to
a flash/lightning icon. When a downloaded track is played, a play/right
arrow icon is displayed.
What does a red circle with an exclemation mark inside mean?
Acast shows this near some feed items. I can watch them without any
problems.
Just for information that the declared size in the RSS feed does not match the downloaded size of the file.
How can I monitor a web page for updates with ACast?
You can add any web page with the ‘Add raw’ function in the Add view.
If you then set an alarm for that feed/page you will see an ‘Update
alarm’ when ACast detects a change in the page.
What can I do to send information about a crash or problem?
Can you install ‘Log Collector’ from the market. This lets you send me
the current log output so I can troubleshoot the problem. Just run Log
Collector directly after ACast has a problem or crashed and enter my
email address (ma_ad@ter.nu) in the to: field.
When I am playing a downloaded feed the phone screen stays
on. Is there any way to get the phone screen to ’sleep’ whilst playing
back a podcast?
The phone screen should go to sleep after a while. I usually press the
‘power off’ button once to turn off the screen immediately after I’ve
started a playing a podcast. Actually ACast does not use any locks
which tries to keep the screen on, it only keeps CPU on during download
and update.
Is it possible to backup feeds list?
You can export your feeds to a Google Reader account or to a local opml file by pressing menu button in the Add
view and selecting Export local OPML. The OPML file will be stored as
/sdcard/acast/acast.opml
