Announcements!
RE: Invitations to parties, such as birthday parties. Please do not have you son/daughter distribute invites via kid mail, unless all students in the room are being invited. We do not want anyone feeling left out and having his/her feelings hurt. Otherwise, invites should be sent directly through postal service and/or e-mail.
Dismissal procedures. Please remember that students in multiples dismissal groups remain multiples regardless of others in the group being absent. Multiples do not go out until 3:30 and it causes a major traffic jam if a multiples vehicle comes through during singles pickup.
Tentative plans for our first field trip are for the date of Friday, 10/23. We are awaiting funding approval and bus reservations. If you are planning to accompany us to the UTA planetarium and Ambassadors of Science show that follows, start considering travel arrangements and carpooling from ACA. Students must ride the bus regardless of parents chaperoning. Times will be between 8:30 and noon. As soon as we are certain, more information will come out and go home, especially permission forms. If you plan to go the cost will probably be $3 per ticket for adults. We ask that you not bring younger/older siblings along.
4th-grade team policy for work missed during an absence: Students will receive make-up work after returning from the absences. Please do not request work in advance. You may check our web pages. Also, make sure a parent-written note is turned into Mrs. Matzner, in order to excuse the absence.
From the start of the school year, please check over assignments on a nightly basis. Let's start on the side of caution then reassess as the year goes on. If you have ever experienced a drop in performance and/or unsatisfactory performance during the previous school year(s), then help us nip that habit in the bud.
There shouldn't be many surprises when progress reports and report cards go out. If you are not seeing graded papers, please contact the teacher.
*Establish contacts with other parents to help you keep up with assignments, due dates, entries in the student planners, etc. Use all of your resources, such as web site, planners, other parents, e-mailing teachers, etc. If you have a question/concern with a teacher and/or subject, please, please, please address that teacher first. You will experience better results dealing with the primary source rather than getting secondhand "service" from the homeroom teacher, who might not know what issues you are dealing with. Don't wait until parent conference day to bring up lingering questions/concerns/doubts/whatevers. We are here for your children and you.
In other words, if you have a question, concern or idea to share with a teacher, please contact that teacher directly rather than feel you have to go through the homeroom teacher. If you need assistance getting in touch with a particular teacher (e.g., your e-mail is not making it through the school filters) please let any of the team teachers know.
We will have a great year and together we can achieve our goals! As Mr. Simon often mentions, it will take all of us (student, parents, teachers, staff) to work together in order to make this year a success.
See ACA web site about procedures for accessing and viewing grades and/or attendance online. Please allow a cushion of time between due dates and posting dates before contacting teachers. In other words, please don't contact teachers if you don't see grades posted within one or two days of the due date. There will be different lag times depending on each teacher's schedule. By the way, excessive tardies may/can affect end-of-year eligibility for citizenship awards and for citizenship grades. Thank you for your patience.
