Open water and sea paddlers, are you looking for a sea anchor for your safety kit that is practical, reliable and above all, cheap?  If the answer is "yes" then read on:

The Easy Stow is a great value sea anchor that stores inside its own bag (which also acts as a break) and packs down to a compact size.  It controls your kayak's movements and reduces wind drift in open water when resting, eating, fishing or riding out rough weather.  Importantly, it can keep your boat in the area longer if you are waiting for rescue.  Suitable for all size sea kayaks the Easy Stow is made from tough nylon fabric with high strength 25mm continuous synthetic webbing and a reinforced attachment loop.  A bargain at only $25.

You would never leave home without adequate protection ... right?   Well for all you steep creek paddlers out there who like to take on the gnarly stuff, Acacia Canoes now has you covered:

Steep creeking can leave the elbows and forearms particularly vulnerable to injury and serious creek paddlers really should be using reliable arm protection.   We think NRS make some of the better quality armoured elbow pads currently on the market ... but don't just take our word for it!   Find out more about these maximum protection pads at our Information Page or see them in store now.

Are you sick and tired of having to carry or drag your boat for what seems like an eternity just to reach the start of your favourite play or creeking run?   Now there's another option:

Ever got to the start of your favourite run and felt like your arms were about to fall off ... and you haven't even started paddling yet?   Worse still ... ever dragged your boat over rocky ground only to find yourself being stalked by an environmentally unfriendly trail of plastic ... and then realized with horror that the hull of your pride and joy is noticeably thinner?

Well Acacia Canoes now has just what you need!  The "Whitewater Kayak Sherpa" allows you to carry your kayak on your back just like a hiking backpack ... with most of the weight being supported between the shoulders and hips, courtesy of a padded hip belt and shoulder straps.  For more details just head to our Information Page or try one out in store.

Attention sea, marathon and expedition paddlers - do you get a pain in the rear end every time you spend more than a few hours in your canoe or kayak?

Well Acacia Canoes has the perfect solution for you.   We are now stocking the SKWOOSH gel seat cushions for canoes and kayaks - well for pretty much any purpose really!   These quality cushions are still made in the good ol' US of A and come in a range of sizes to fit most craft.

Medically proven pressure relieving technology makes these cushions just soooo comfortable!  Try one out and you'll wonder how you ever survived without it.   Contact us today for further information or to arrange a demonstration.

South East Queensland paddlers - are you interested in getting local white water paddling facilities?

If the answer to this is "yes" then you should consider getting behind a local not-for-profit organisation that was formed to press for the development of recreational facilities on the upper Brisbane River.

Water released from Wivenhoe Dam is drawn off downstream at the Mount Crosby weir before being treated and fed into the Brisbane water grid.  This has opened up a 52km year-round run for canoeists down to Kholo Bridge, mainly through pleasant rural country.  However the lack of any significant gradient in the river has meant that, with the exception of one grade 2 rapid immediately below the dam, there is very little to encourage canoeists looking to enhance their paddling skills and experiences.

Brisbane River Recreation Inc (BRRI) was formed in 2005 for the purpose of developing family friendly facilities at several sites along the river with potential benefits for various recreational pursuits - notably canoeing.  The proposals include the construction of in-river structures to enhance the amenity of the river for recreational and training activities, with the current focus being on locations at Atkinson Crossing (below Wivenhoe Dam), Lowood Bend Reserve and Twin Bridges (near Fernvale).  Several funding applications have so far been made to Government.

So what can you do for the cause?  Well firstly you can seek further information or indicate your support and/or willingness to become a member by phoning 07 3288 3132 or via email.  Secondly you can tell everyone you know about these proposals - especially those with any influence in areas of Government funding and recreation policy.  This is an opportunity to get something constructive for South-East Queensland paddlers, so any support you can give to BRRI would be welcome.
