Cantilever Beam Shear Stress

cantilever beam shear stress
    cantilever beam
  • A cantilever is a beam supported on only one end. The beam carries the load to the support where it is resisted by moment and shear stress. Cantilever construction allows for overhanging structures without external bracing. Cantilevers can also be constructed with trusses or slabs.
  • A beam supported only at one end with the other end free to move.
  • A long piece of wood or metal used to support a structure; a horizontal beam that is fastened only at one end and extends beyond a supporting surface.
    shear stress
  • A shear stress, denoted (tau), is defined as a stress which is applied parallel or tangential to a face of a material, as opposed to a normal stress which is applied perpendicularly.
  • A tangential force divided by the area (FORCE/AREA) on which it is applied. The shear stress is equal to the viscosity multiplied by the shear rate (measured in units of pressure, i.e., MPa or psi). At the die lips under usual production conditions, the shear stress may reach values of 0.
  • Stress acting parallel to an imaginary plane cut through an object.

I went into the city thi morning early as I was wanting to see a solar powered ship stopping in Brisbane while circumnavigating the world. The ship hadn't arrived yet, and I actually got to shoot it later in the afternoon when Mrs Mail and I went walking in the city. However, in the morning as Brisbane started to wake up and get outside, I found 4 people in a small shade tent. the two ladies moved to the edge of the stairs at the riverfront and one had a camcorder and the other one was doing an awful lot of talking in Spanish. I asked their permission (they couldn't argue during an interview LOL) and took a few shots holding the camera almosr on the paving unable to look though the viewfinder. This is the best and I really like the cantilevered beam above them. It was a beautiful morning. Centre of Attention Challenge
