What to Expect in a Treatment

Except for a Fertility Assessment (which takes 30 minutes), an initial appointment with us is 1 hour in duration. This allows us the time to take a comprehensive history, do a structural and functional assessment and then to spend the time to get to know how your body responds to treatment. Subsequent treatments are 30 minutes in duration.

The actual treatment will vary from one person to another depending on their problem and the way their body responds to different therapies. For straight forward structural problems a treatment will involve massage, muscle releases, stretching and spinal manipulation.

However, some people do not respond well to manipulation or want to avoid it so we may use more subtle techniques such as Positional Release, Myofascial Release and Craniosacral Therapy.

Generally treatments are not painful (although the massage can be uncomfortable at times). Afterward patients are given instructions for things they can do at home to move their recovery along (stretches, supplements, lifestyle changes, etc).

When you go home you may be sore for a day or two as your body adjusts to working differently. Muscles that have not been pulling their weight may suddenly be called upon to contribute and they may protest initially. You will need to drink plenty of water for a couple of days after the treatment to help your kidneys shed toxins released from relaxing muscles.

Courses of treatment generally vary from 1 to 5 treatments in length, but some people do require on-going care.
