Each year, the Abingdon PTA organizes tuition-based afterschool enrichment activities for students. Whether your child is in extended day or typically walks or takes the bus home, they can participate in one or more of these programs. Late buses will likely not be available when activities begin this fall and are rarely available on Fridays throughout the school year. Mondays:
v TAE KWON DO with MR. AHMAD: Mondays 2:45-3:45; grades preK – 5. $40 for first month sessions and then NUR Martial Arts will handle payment for successive months. Starting Oct 3 and every Monday thereafter that school is in session. NEW FORMAT !!! - RECURRING MONTHLY SESSIONS THAT INSURE YOUR CHILD WILL PROGRESS THROUGH BELT LEVELS - Students follow a contemporary Tae Kwon Do curriculum with focus on balance, flexibility, and coordination. Lessons are designed to develop self-esteem, confidence, manners, focus, and self-discipline. Topics such as making good friends, personal hygiene, respect for parents and teachers, and how to deal with bullies are discussed during our "Mat Chats. Our professional team of Black Belt instructors are committed to taking each student to his or her maximum potential. v Kicks for Kids Soccer with Khary Stockton Soccer: Tuesdays 2:45-3:45; grades K-5. $95 for 8 classes – Oct 11, Oct 18, Oct 25, Nov 1, Nov 15, Nov 22, Nov 29, Dec 6 The Kicks for Kids Soccer program was created as an after school class for kids aspiring to be better soccer players. It is geared to improve the individual ball skills and techniques of the participants in a fun, interactive environment (children will be separated by age). Khary is a former professional player as well as an accomplished coach in the Washington area. He has provided numerous clinics to individuals and teams. El programa de futbol fue creado como una clase después de la escuela para los niños que quieren ser mejores jugadores de futbol. Está orientado a mejorar las habilidades y técnicas individuales de cada participante de forma divertida y en un ambiente interactivo (los niños serán divididos por edades). Khary es un ex jugador de futbol profesional así como un experto entrenador en el área de Washington. Él ha jugado profesionalmente en Brasil, Chile y Argentina. LEGO® Robotics is our core class, where beginners learn to build and program robots using LEGO® Education’s award-winning WeDo robotics and programming software. Students follow step-by-step on-screen instructions to build their robots, and then build a suggested program to get their robots working. After that, those who are ready build more complicated programs involving motion or tilt sensors, or improvise to make their robots achieve certain tasks.
