About Ferndale Citizens For A Better Library

Libraries build community, educate our citizens, help local business and community groups, and even increase property values. Ferndale residents want a library as dynamic and welcoming as Ferndale itself.

Why does Ferndale's library need improvement?

Surveys show that residents often have to leave our community to find the library resources they need.Because of budget cuts and an aging building, our library lags far behind neighboring communities:

  • The library has not been renovated for 52 years;
  • The staff is half the size of three decades ago
  • The library's collection is out of date.

What is the Library's improvement plan?

The library has devised cost-effective solutions respond to the needs of Ferndale's citizens:

  • Better Space
    Careful renovation and creative additions will provide new areas for children, teens, quiet reading and study, large and small meetings;
  • New Staff
    Additional librarians with specialized training will provide new programs for children, teens and seniors, and longer hours in mornings and evenings and on Saturdays and Sundays;
  • More Stuff
    Thousands of new books for adults and kids will refresh the collection, as will new data- bases, magazines, downloadable audiobooks, cds and dvds (with free borrowing!

How can I help?
