November 26th, 2009 - A low-key Thanksgiving for me this year. Just my grandparents, Miranda, Mom, Lynn and me. I woke up to watch the parade with my mutts. We just snuggled in bed together until it was over. I've watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade since I was tiny, so it's kind of a tradition... Though I have skipped a few years in the past. After it was over, I started my rolls. The ones I've never made before and kind of feared. Homemade crescent rolls. I mixed up the dough and figured it was an epic failure just by the consistency. But, I covered it to let it rise anyway. Checked on it an hour later, it hadn't risen. Failure. So, I continued with helping Mimi get things together for the dinner and tend to all of the beasts before. Finally, an hour before dinner, I checked the dough one final time. And it had risen... But the rolls needed to rise an hour before baking! An hour I didn't have. So I rolled them out, left them be for about 20 min. then baked them. They turned out deliciously... a couple were burnt, I admit. But, I was trying to get ready and bake all at once. Bad idea. We had a lovely dinner... Cranberry salad, dressing and gravy, turkey, ham, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, and homemade mac and cheese. Oh, and my slightly over-done rolls. Which everyone did seem to enjoy, after all. It was all delicious... Dessert was skipped due to the lateness of dinner. We had the desserts, of course... just, everyone was overly full and well, some had to leave early. So, I just got my dessert to go :P My mom's wonderful pumpkin pecan praline cake. Yum! This year, I have much to be thankful for. Health, family, friends, my beasts, my home. I admit, I do forget it just how blessed I am from time to time. But I'm trying to remember that fact daily.
