Who I Am: My name is Abby Maakestad, and I am a junior at the University of Northern Iowa. I completed my first two years of college at Kirkwood CC in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I am majoring in Elementary Education, and minoring in Mathematics. I am from Radcliffe, Iowa, and I embrace my Norwegian heritage and my love for God. Why I am going to be a Teacher: I am going to be a teacher because I have always had the desire to work with people, and children are so welcoming and energetic. I thrive on being challenged, and I enjoy taking care of children. I also know what an impact my teachers made on my development, and I want to make the same impression on my own students. What I hope to Achieve Through Teaching: Through teaching, I would love to reach out to underprivileged children with resources like technology. I also want to revive the educational programs in schools by intrinsically motivating my students to succeed. Philosophy of Education: My Philosophy of Education includes my beliefs of the role of the teacher, the curriculum, the students, the classroom environment/management, and the parents. I believe that teachers, students, and parents all play an active part in education and have a tremendous influence on the quality of programs that are presented in the classroom.
