Abbey Wand Shoot'09

Abbey Bowmen held their first ever Wand Shoot on 8th November 2009.
Inspired by three of its members that shoot longbow and have enjoyed wand shoots in the past, this promised to be a good day out - and it was.

The weather was kind to the event, if not the archers.  It stopped raining before assembly and stayed fine, if over cast all day, some claimed to have seen a glimpse of the sun but we think they may have been exaggerating!

The wind seemed determined to foil all of us, pushing our arrows around unkindly and making the distances seem far more than they were, but that made it easier on the scorers.

Much tea, coffee and cake was consumed and the majority of the archers were finding it so compelling that they asked to continue shooting while the scores and awards were assessed - which was better than standing around waiting.  We are glad it was so compelling.
We'd like to thank everyone that came and all those that contributed to the day - especially to John Barnwell who made the wands - and the Abbey members anf friends that helped on the day.
The results are below, along with the 'proposal' which details the round.
We will be doing this again on 14th November 2010, so please write it in to your diary, we'd like to see even more of you next year.
