New Hampshire has very good skiing and the White Mountains make that so. In 1911 a Ski/Snowshoe club opened at Dartmouth. It was very popular. Two-thirds of the students were part of it. The first trail opened at Cannon in the White Mountains. In 1935 Gunstock made the world’s longest rope tow. The first rope tow was made in Quebec in 1932. At Black Mountain in Jackson the first t-bar appeared. The rope tow and t-bar made it easier for anyone to ski. I definitely would not ski if I had to walk up the mountain.
In 1929/1930 the first ski school in America was opened. In 1931 a snow train was opened from Boston to North Woodstock so people from Massachusetts could ski in New Hampshire. At Cannon Mountain, the first aerial tram was opened in 1938. The high speed detachable quad is another change in lifts that brings skiers up the mountain quicker. The one at Wildcat in Pinkham Notch brings you up to the summit in just 6 minutes! Magic carpets make it easier for beginners to get on learning trails. Currently, there are 18 alpine ski mountains in the Granite State.
New Hampshire is a great skiing destination.
