Sander Verhaegh

I am a PhD-student at the University of Groningen thanks to a NWO grant 'Duurzame Geesteswetenschappen' which I received in July 2010. My project focusses on the Benacerraf Dilemma, a problem concerned with the question of how one can combine a plausible epistemology with a consistent metaphysics in the philosophy of mathematics. I am especially interested in the way naturalistic philosophers deal with this dilemma. The project is supervised by Jeanne Peijnenburg and Igor Douven.

Currently I am working on a paper on the revisability paradox with Allard Tamminga, and on a paper on the empirical justification of prediction holism (which is one of the central claims of the Duhem-Quine thesis, the topic of my Master's thesis). Before I started my PhD, I studied Political Science in Nijmegen and Philosophy in Nijmegen, Groningen, and Sheffield

Next to naturalism, the Duhem-Quine thesis, and the Benacerraf Dilemma, I am especially interested in metaphilosophy, philosophical methodology, general philosophy of science, and the philosophies of Rudolf Carnap, Willlard van Orman Quine, and Penelope Maddy.
