Aashritha - Process and ProjectsWhat does Aashritha mean?Aashritha has multiple meanings and origins. The Indian version of Aashritha means the One who gives Shelter. The Hindu version of Aashritha denotes another name for Goddess Lakshmi :The Goddess of wealth and prosperity. (top)
What is the prime goal of Aashritha?Aashritha aims at providing a good standard of education to poor children in India. (top)
What does Aashritha do to meet its goal?Aashritha adopts children who are unable to find proper resources for education. Aashritha admits these children to a private school (registered with the Govt. of India) and sponsors their education till secondary level (10th Grade). (top)
How does Aashritha identifies, selects and adopts the children?Aashritha has a network of coordinators spread across different locations in India and world. The coordinators recommend the children to Aashritha. Majority of these children either belong to a very poor family, not in a position to support their education in private schools (sometimes not even the goverment schools) or have lost their parents/guardian to an unfortunate event. Aashritha adopts these children (depending on the funds) and supports their education. (top)
Is the adoption done in a legal way?No. Aashritha is a NGO and only sponsors the education for 'adopted' children. However, Aashritha do not take the legal adoption for these children. Aashritha, provides the facility of house and food to these children during their academic sessions. The children remain legally and mentally attached to their respective family and relatives. The word 'adopt' implies 'sponsor' if used under any Aashritha documents/articles/blogs or website. (top)
Does Aashritha track the progress of adopted children?Yes. Aashritha tracks the progress of each individual child. Every child has a dedicated 'Aacharya', who tracks the progress and also addresses the child's needs on a regular basis. (top)
Who is the 'Aacharya'?'Aacharya' is a term referred in Aashritha for all the coordinators. Each coordinator is responsible to take care of the child/children from his or her area. Thus each child or a group of children gets an 'Aacharya'. (top)
What is done if any child is not able to perform good or as per the expectations, academically? The 'Aacharya' mentors and guides the children academically. However, if the 'Aacharya' is not able to devote personal time to every child, then Aashritha employs a 'Guru'. A 'Guru' is a personal tutor, who is trained to teach. (top)
What actions does Aashritha takes if a child fails even after guidance and support from the 'Aacharya' and/or the 'Guru'?If the child is not able to fair well academically, Aashritha tries to find an area where the child can develop well and become independent in future. Areas outsite studies could be anything ranging from music, art and culture, dramatics, sports, cottage or small industry training and other creative areas. (top)
How long does Aashritha supports the adopted children?Aashritha currently plans to sponsor and support the education of all adopted children till the end of secondary level schooling, i.e. till 10th Grade. We believe that a strong base is the most important aspect to ones individuality and that a student should be free to choose his/her career after the basic education. However, if desired by the student and if found capable, Aashritha would support higher education. (top)
Is Aashritha only willing to support education? What about living standards or other needs?Once Aashritha adopts any child, it not only sponsors the education, but also takes care of providing a house near the school, 3 time meals, tuitions and a round trip to family/relatives every time during academic vacations. School uniforms and other daily wares are also provided depending on the needs and situational demands. (top)
