New Freeview Channels

Upgrading to Freeview will increase your number of analog channels by five. Channel 10 has already launched their multichannel, One HD. Channel 9 will be launching theirs in August, it will be named GO!99 and will screen old sitcoms and entertainment programming. ABC will soon receive funding and launch ABC3 and are hoping to go up to ABC6.  Channel Seven is yet to say anything. 

 

Multichannel Networks

Channel Ten's new channel One HD which will be a 24 hour sports channel, is set to begin broadcasting on March the 26th.   It will take place of Ten HD, which is anonying for people with HDTV's, but at least this is setting a good example to other networks. 

ABC will also be replacing their HD service, with ABC 3, a childrens channel. SBS is stating they will replace their foriegn news service with an english one. 

This is no competition for Foxtel's 20 new channels coming this year. 

Channel 7 & 9 are yet to say anything about multichannels.  

Foxtels biggest enemy - the Internet.

Foxtel is Australia's biggest pay TV provider with 80 channels and charging an average of $65.00 per customer per month. With raising prices of mortgages and petrol, many people have had to cancel there Foxtel subscription. 

But what Foxtel doesn't want you to know is that most of Foxtels channels are now available free.

This is a serious problem for Foxtel and unless they get there act together more people will join the world of Internet TV.

 

Freeview - a massive lie.

You may have seen ads on T.V advertising Freeview, many people want to know what is Freeview? and what's so great about it?

Freeview is a free-to-air digital service stating that they will offer 15 new free-to-air digital channels.

  

Problems with that statement:

• The most obvious problem is that we get all of those channels anyway without Freeview. 
• They are also saying that channel 7, 9 & 10 will start a new multichannel, the only channel that is doing that is channel 10 with their new 24 hours sports channel. 
• If channel 7 & 9 do decide to create a new channel we will lose 7 HD & 9 HD.
• Due to One Sports we are losing 10 HD. 
• SBS 2 is already a 24 hour foreign news service with no English content.
• SBS HD is not a full HD channel.
• We are not getting 15 new channels because we have already had nost of those channels for years. We are only getting 2 new channels.

 Malware writers don't take holidays!

This years holiday season is war for computer users and repairers, new fake anti-virus programs have been created. They get into un-protected systems (and there is many out there) by trojan or manual install and pretend to be protecting you from threats. What they actully do is track everything you do including your passwords and private emails to try and find any information. 

To prevent yourself from getting these anti-virus viruses, make sure you protect your computer from day 1 and only install well known anti-virus software. (eg. AVG, Nortan, Avast, PC Tools) 

If you think your anti-virus program is fake look it up on google, and if you get a heap of spywear removal instructions chances are your anti-virus is fake. To remove your fake anti-virus download and scan with Malware Bytes' Anti-Malware.

 

 CAUTION: Microsoft Internet Explorer

Microsoft Internet Explorer has been breched again, this time the virus is doing the same thing as all the others but it has received more attention.                  

The virus isn't the problem, it's the browser. Internet Explorer is one of the most dangerous things on the web.

To resolve all Internet Explorer problems. Download and install Fire Fox, the safest and fastest way to browse the web.

Foxtel IQ2 $200 Upgrade fee - worth it?

CNET Australia has recomend the Foxtel IQ2, the gateway to Foxtel HD+, and has said the $200 upgrade fee is worth it. Aaron's Computer Help will be able to test the IQ2 in mid 2009. We personally disagree, Foxtel should allow a free upgrade.

 Sony Blu-ray Disc has won the battle with the Toshiba HD DVD. The Blu-ray Disc is better quality than the HD DVD.

Don't worry if you have gone and bought a HD DVD player and HD DVD's. Toshiba has said they will support the HD DVD for another 4 years.

Unlimited Storage?

Yahoo Mail has just upgraded to Unlimited storage. The only problem with Yahoo Mail is the ads. The ads that Yahoo Mail has are moving picture ads, moving picture ads use more of your Internet limit. Gmail doesn't have any moving picture ads, They have text ads. Gmail doesn't have unlimited storage, but who's going to use 8.5 GB of space?
