OCTOBER 28, 2011

Career Fair 9-12 (Room 1124 Lefrak) open to all students in the MAD are, and all professional geographers who will be present to talk to students about internships and jobs.

Light refreshments 12-1.

Presentation sessions – Posters and papers are welcome.  Abstracts should be sent to Martha Geores (mgeores@umd.edu) by OCTOBER 15.

There will be a poster contest for students, with prizes.

Dinner at a restaurant TBA

The MAD Geography Bowl competition at the annual meeting determined the students who will represent MAD at the AAG meeting in April in Seattle.  Go MAD !!!

New MAD Officers

The votes are in, and the slate was elected!  I am delighted to announce the winners in the election of 2011 officers for the AAG Middle Atlantic Division.

The Chair is Martha Geores, Associate Professor, University of Maryland-College Park. 

The Vice Chair is Tracy Edwards of Frostburg State University.  Tracy has served as Treasurer for several years.

Continuing as Secretary and Webmaster is Alex Aguilar, Assistant Professor, Salisbury University.

Our new Treasurer is Karen DeLong of Montgomery College.  Karen was our “Go-to person” at the annual meeting in 2009 at the Germantown campus of Montgomery College.

 

Thanks to the MAD members who utilized the SurveyMonkey method of voting.  We look forward to the annual meeting joining the Pennsylvania Geographical Society, and we look forward to the coming year of MAD within the AAG.

Election of MAD-AAG officers

The Nominating Committee has assembled a slate of officers for 2011 and requests your participation in the election.  The ballot is available on the Internet on the SurveyMonkey site.  Click on the link http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/YKWXQNB to go to the ballot.  Voting is open until October 15th.  Results will be announced in late October.

Each member can vote only once.

Call for Nominations

The Middle Atlantic Division (MAD) of the AAG is seeking nominations for the officer positions of MAD.  Officers are Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer.  Officers serve for a one-year period.

 

Please give the name, affiliation, and email address of each candidate.  Also please provide a brief biographical sketch which may be posted on the MAD website and distributed to members.  Before nominating a person, please verify that the candidate is willing to serve if elected.  Do not hesitate to nominate yourself if you are interested. 

 

Please provide the information to Cathy Cooper at coopercw@goeaston.net or to Mike Ratcliffe at michael.r.ratcliffe@census.gov or to David Rain at drain@gwu.edu.

 

Nominations are due by September 15, 2010.  The election will be held prior to the annual meeting scheduled for November 5-6, 2010 in York, Pennsylvania.
