FAQ

Do I need a Title 24 report for my project?
All new construction, outside of a few exceptions, are required to submit a Title 24 report to obtain a building permit.  The residential standards cover all occupancy group R-3 single family and duplex buildings, occupancy group R-1 & R-2 multifamily buildings of three or fewer habitable stories. Additions and alterations to the aforementioned building occupancy types are also included in the code and are defined as follows.
Addition: Any change to an existing building that increases the conditioned floor area and volume.
Alterations: Changes to an existing building that are not additions that affect either the building envelope, space conditioning equipment, water heating equipment or lighting equipment.

What is the difference between the Performance and Prescriptive approach?
The prescriptive approach is a path organized by packages that define maximum or minimum performance levels for various building components.  This approach offers the least flexibility since if only one performance target is not met the building will not meet code requirements.  The performance method is often referred to as the computer method and allows trade offs between performance of building components.  The proposed building design is compared against a similar building with the same orientation, floor plan and openings but that complies with the appropriate prescriptive package.  The energy consumption of the proposed building must be less than or equal to that of the standard design to comply with Title 24.

What is a HERS rater?
A HERS rater is someone certified by one of the three California Energy Commission approved HERS providers to conduct field verification of energy efficiency measures.  The three approved HERS providers are CHEERS (http://www.cheers.org), CalCERTS (http://www.calcerts.com), and CBPCA (http://www.cbpca.org).  If Title 24 compliance is obtained by specifying a measure that requires HERS inspection a field verification of those measure must be conducted before completion of the building.

What do you need from me to complete the report?
See the services page for a complete list of items necessary.  We can easily work with printed plans, hand-drawn plans, or electronic documents.

How do I paste the Title 24 Report into my AutoCAD plans?

In Adobe Acrobat go to Tools - Select & Zoom - Snapshot Tool.  Use this tool to highlight the entire page.  Once you have finished the program will inform you the page has been copied. In the AutoCAD file into which you want the report use the paste special function to paste the page wherever you'd like it to be.
