Elton - Someone to Love
Keyword Search: H4TH FHFR
FieldHaven Feline Rescue
Elton (the orange tabby) currently resides at FieldHaven Feline Rescue in Lincoln CA. He's looking for a forever home. Everyone at FieldHaven loves him and he has a wonderful personality.
Unfortunately, Elton's story is still all too common, but FieldHaven will make sure he is safe from now on. FieldHaven's director was doing a consulting project at a rural California county shelter where they have a very high euthanasia rate despite how hard they work to save animals. It just comes down to resources and demographics. While working there she purposely chose not to go back to the kennels, knowing it would be heart wrenching. A FieldHaven staffer urged her to ask the animal shelter to select a cat from the euthanasia list to take back to FieldHaven. Then on her last day there, the director truly buckled and asked the shelter to select one more cat and a litter of kittens. Elton was that "one more cat". He was on the euthanasia list for the next day; no particular reason - just too many cats. By the luck of the draw, Elton was saved.
Elton has an awesome personality, in fact, he has almost been adopted about five or six times. Unfortunately, he has medical conditions that ultimately turned those adopters away. Both conditions are very mild (gingivitis and ocular discharge; possibly feline herpes). According to the director, these conditions are very mild and could easily have been overlooked, but FieldHaven staff is very medically oriented and they believe in disclosing any possible medical conditions they're aware of.

Dotty's Story
Keyword Search: H4TH ODHN
Old Dog Haven
Dotty is an old girl who strayed into a large shelter in spring 2006. A volunteer there asked if Old Dog Haven could take her, as she had no chance of adoption there, and ended up becoming her Final Refuge home.
Dotty was soon diagnosed with an inoperable tumor, requiring ultrasounds and continuing care. She also had a lot of ataxia (It is a neurological sign and symptom consisting of gross incoordination of muscle movements.) in her hind legs, with a very uncoordinated gait. This summer another tumor appeared in her mouth. Through this her attitude has been terrific and she's had a wonderful life with her foster parents. Now, however, her hind legs are barely functioning. We have provided a donated cart to help with her mobility, and she is getting palliative care for both tumors. She would benefit greatly from swim therapy and acupuncture, both recommended by her vet but outside what we can cover financially.
This wonderful dog has been such a trooper and no doubt has limited time left, but we would love to have the funds to help her hind legs stay as functional as possible.

Blondie & Blaze, Their Story
Keyword Search: H4TH SCER
South Carolina Awareness & Rescue for Equines
These two horses are recovering from severe abuse and neglect -- beginning to look healthier and someday soon ready to find homes! They came into S.C.A.R.E.'s rehabilitation program and are being cared for by dedicated volunteers. Even though they each had body scores of around one, there is hope for them to come back from the brink to live the safe and healthy lives they deserve. (Remarkably, horses can lose 30 percent or more of their body weight and still survive, but horses in an abused, starved condition have very little muscle mass remaining and are very weak.)
They need attention and lots of TLC to restore trust, and a sound nutrition program to get them back into proper body condition.
The biggest obstacle faced is the lack of money available for rehabilitation. Please go to our links page to see how you can ensure that these two horses and all of the equine in South Carolina may live in a safe, healthy and nurturing environment.
China Needs a Forever Home

Shar Pei Savers
Hi! I’m China! As you can see, I’m a beautiful, playful girl and I’m looking for a great home. I think kitties are made for chasing, so SPS says I need a home without cats. I’m a high energy girl and love playing with kids, but because I can be rambunctious, I would do best in a home with children over seven. Though I have lived with other dogs in the past, I would probably be happier as an only dog – so I can get all the lovin’! I’m just getting settled in my foster home! Do I sound like the girl for you? Won't you please consider adopting me?

Elena - One Tough Little Cookie

Shar Pei Savers
Hi! I'm Elena. As you can see I'm just a baby - only 10 weeks old. My mom is a purebred shar pei, who my dad is remains a mystery. My life got off to a very exciting start. You see, my mom Wrinkles was abandoned by her family and came into rescue and nobody knew she was expecting. The day some volunteers came to the boarding kennel to photograph my mom for the website they found me on the cold, wet cement. The most amazing part is that they didn't even find me in the run with my mom - somehow within a couple of hours of being born I had crawled out of my mom's run all the way across the floor of the kennel and into the run with a male shar pei. They tell me the fact that I survived such a rough start is a miracle, but I knew I'd be fine - I'm one tough little cookie!
Because I'm an "only child" and didn't have any siblings to help teach me about pack order I have a dominant personality and will need a family committed to being my "pack leader". My foster mom has worked alot with me to make sure I am well socialized and will accept my human taking the roll of leader, but this reinforcement will need to continue when I move to my forever home so I don't grow up to be a little monster! I'm smart and learn quickly - I'm crate trained, and well on my way to being housebroken. I love having other dogs to play with. Kids should be ages 8 and up since I'm going to need alot of time and attention at my young age. If you have the time and patience needed to work with such a young pup and I sound like the girl for you please go to our links page to find out how to adopt me.
Klein Is Seeking a Sponsor
Keyword Search: H4TH CCF
Cheetah Conservation Fund
"I was born in May 2000 and arrived at CCF with my two siblings, Chanel and Calvin, when they were one year old. Our mother was shot on a game farm near Mangeti (north of Grootfontein). Her skin was used to capture us. It took three weeks before CCF was called to collect us. We were in poor condition and required intensive treatment. I underwent a 24-hour sedation to help me stop vomiting and re-hydrate me. Stress and an associated bacterial infection resulted in a severely inflamed stomach lining, vomiting, and diarrhoea. I recovered completely. However, Calvin died of a chest cavity infection in 2002."
Klein and his littermate, Calvin, were given those names for the cheetah's apparent attraction to the cologne, Calvin Klein -Obsession for Men. Through the Cheetah Conservation Fund's efforts, Klein has grown into a impressive fellow. He is the largest of four boys sharing a pen, and is very aggressive. He is easily amused by anything that moves. Although he is entertained by a bird in the tree or a mouse on the ground, he also tends to be very jealous when his neighbours are still feasting. Because Klein was taken so early from his mother, he may never be released into the wild and is dependent on humans for his care. If you would like to sponsor Klein, please visit our links page.
Saving Henry

Happy Paws Haven
"We would like to highlight one of two remaining cats (Henry and his mother Dahlia) from our Scant City rescue over a year ago. With the generosity of A4C artists we were able to bring to good health, vaccinate, spay or neuter, advertise for adoption and adopt out 37 of the 40 cats originally rescued in the Scant City Cat Colony rescue on July 1, 2006.
Henry was born under a shed in the heat of the Alabama summer in back of the trailer that housed 40 cats. His mother Dahlia is still with us. Henry, Rex, Princess and Paulie were about 8 weeks old and extremely dehydrated, undernourished and terribly ill with eye and respiratory
infections. Rex died recently after numerous complications incepted from his early illnesses, Princess had her left eye enucleated and was adopted to a loving home as a special needs cat and Paulie was adopted to a loving family last year.
Henry, a solid gray American Shorthair, was the most difficult to catch. This baby still had enough energy to elude us for 24 hours after his siblings and mother were captured. I caught him in a net with the help of Wendell Dunkling, the neighbor that originally reported the
abandonment of the colony.
Henry has been consistently ill with respiratory infections, has developed ocular herpes, has intestinal problems and has developed allergies that have caused him to lose a great deal of fur along his spine and across his hips and tail. After numerous trips to the vet and
a number of naturopathic and homeopathic treatments he is in recovery now. In spite of all this Henry has been a loving cat and because of his special needs will probably be with us forever.
He hangs out with Moses, our resident MSI (multiple species integrator), a 10 year old male cat that allows Henry to faux-nurse and grooms him on a constant basis. They are inseparable and sleep together on our bed or
play on the cat stands in our cat room in back of our home.
Henry is still learning to live with humans and will always be reluctant toward people because of his mistreatment as a kitten. Henry is 16 months old now." - Dave, Happy Paws Haven

Sweet Little Elsa needs a 4-ever Home
Keyword Search: H4TH ANTA
Animal Trustees of Austin
Elsa is about 18 months old and 40-45 lbs. A little bit of Setter, a little bit of Lab, maybe some Retriever? Whatever the mix, Elsa is a funny, sweet, charming girl.
Elsa was the only surviving puppy of two feral dogs living underneath a church out in the country. Her personality traits of independence, intelligence, and just plain old scrappiness served her well in a world where she needed every bit of gumption she had just to survive. She's very dog-oriented and would do best with another dog, who is as into playtime as much as she is. Elsa loves water and she's still very much a puppy and will need training and consistency. She knows "sit" and is willing to do just about anything you ask for a treat.
Elsa has been spayed, microchipped, is current on all
vaccinations and flea/heartworm prevention.

Maggie is Seeking a Forever Home

Greyhound Rescue of Tennessee
Maggie is a return due to her adopter living in an apartment and her being too vocal. After she was returned her foster mom found a lump on her neck and that was her first surgery but shortly afterward another two appeared and the lab results were positive for cancer. Presently we are observing her and keeping an eye on a suspicious lump beginning again. Maggie is in foster care but would love to have a home of her own with a family to love and care for her. We don't know what Maggie's future holds but everyday is one more day she could enjoy with a family of her own. She does well with children, small dogs and cats.

Kennewick
Keyword Search: H4TH WCH
Wild Cat Haven
Kennewick was found in a mechanics garage in Kennewick, Washington. No one knows how he ended up there. All they knew was that he had been inside the building for at least five days. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife was called in to capture him. Initially, they thought the cougar had been someone’s pet; however, they later decided that his behavior was too wild for him to have been raised as a pet. Without resources to care for a sick, wild cougar, they were stumped as to what to do with him and, finally, decided to euthanize him. Luckily, Mike and Cheryl Tuller of Sherwood, Oregon’s WildCat Haven heard about Kennewick’s plight and offered to give him a lifetime home.
When Mike Tuller and Tim Adams made the trip to Washington to pick up Kennewick, they were stunned at his condition. He was emaciated (weighing less than 90 pounds), covered in ticks and had broken, bloody canine teeth. His tail was torn and oozing blood. Despite his condition they were determined to do everything they could to save him.
After extensive dental surgery and veterinary care and through a healthy diet and lots of love, Kennewick has thrived at WildCat Haven. In the past year, he has more than doubled his weight and has settled in better than the Tullers would ever have imagined!
Kennewick’s forever home, WildCat Haven, is an 8-acre sanctuary where he has 40 other wild cats to keep him company. The Haven is owned and operated 24/7 by the Tullers, with the help of a few other volunteers on a part time basis. They are dependent solely on their own resources and donations to take care of these magnificent cats.
