Life in the NW

.:In The Garage:.

**This page is dedicated to mods, or installs that I have pictures of.**

So this winter my water pump bit the dust. I figured instead of paying some mechanic $600+
to do it for me, that I would dig in myself and learn. Below are a few pictures of the progress so far with
dis-assembeling the motor to get access to the water pump itself.

That would be a breaker bar attatched to the motor mount incase you were wondering ;)

Breaking the pivot bolt loose.

Takin' a little more muscle than I anticipated.

Finally...SUCCESS!!! lol

I'll try and snap a few more pictures of the other progress when I get back out there to dig in.
Right now I am waiting on a few parts and tools to finish the job.

.:Valve Adjustment for a B16A Head:.

So after I got my water pump fixed, I noticed that my valves had gone loose on me. When idleing you can here several
of them clicking around as if a bolt is bouncing around under my vavle cover...(BTW there isn't a bolt, I checked just to make
sure =) Anyways I began to research how to do so and plan on getting it done fairly soon (weather permiting.)

Below are just some personal notes made about what is to be done to get the job done right. I will also include a few links at the bottom
to help guide you through anything else.

First of all you want to adjust the valves ONLY when the motor is cold (32 C) Due to aluminum heads and the expansion of metal
under high heat, you want the motor to stay cool to ensure accurate measurments.

Next you want to adjust the valves when they are each at top dead center. The link below will show you how to rotate the crank pulley
and locate the TDC (top dead center) of each cylinder. You will also want to do so by following the cylinders in their firing order
(1-3-4-2.) Cylinder #1 is closest to your cam gears then it goes up from there.

For a B16 head the valve lash specs are as follows:
 Intake: 0.006"-0.007"
Exhaust: 0.007"-0.008"

The links below will give you different specs for different heads.

Since you are removing the valve cover and spark plugs, it would be a perfect opportunity to check/replace your spark plugs. Below are indicator colors to look for when examining your spark plugs:

            Brown = Perfect A/F mixture.

White = To lean of a mixture.

Black = To Rich of a mixture.

Tools:

. Lock nut wrench
. Slot head screwdriver
. 10mm, 16mm, 19mm socket and ratchet
. 6" extension
. Set of angled feeler gauges (0.006" and 0.007")

Not everyone wants to go out and spend $5+ dollars on angled feeler gauges, they are nice to have and are recommended, but
if you have just a standard set you can simply bend them yourselves. One thing to make sure of though is to make absolute
certainty that you are NOT bending any area of the feeler gauge that will slipped in for measurment.

I hope you will find this information as useful as I did!

.:New OEM Front Bumper:.

I recently got moved and came across my old turbo parts sitting around in my storage. I really had no need for them anymore
so I decided to see what I could trade them for. I've been wanting to ditch the old front bumper cause it had been damaged by the previous owner, causing it to bow out on the sides and nothing really seemed to line up anymore.

So after a few looks around craigslist I scored a new front OEM bumper AND some OEM side skirts to replace those wings west skirts currently on there. The bumper is now mounted and I am very pleased with it, the only problem is that is temperarily flat black while I finish doing some body work to it before paint.

This is a mock up of how I wanted my fogs to sit.

As you can see I fit my fogs into the factory slots, they are probably my favorite part of the new setup.

.:Custom Painted OEM GSR Strut Bar:.

I had some bronze duplicolor rim paint sitting around so I decided to paint that boring black GSR strut bar.

Purely aesthetic but I think it hads to my engine bay. Also you might notice my intake setup ;)

.:Tinted Tail Lights:.

I finally decided to tint my tail lights. I ordered some removable, pre-cut vinyl tints off of ebay for about $15.00. I have to say I think
they turned out fairly good, they were relatively easy to install and I think they add to my black paint.

.:Long Overdue Update:.
First thing first thanks to BACKWOODZ TUNER AKA JOE for hooking me up with some much need parts!
Parts List:
Door Handles!!!!!!!!!!!! Most exciting new parts for me lol
OEM side skirt clips to put on my OEM side skirts
Front Camber Kit
Some interior black panels
USDM Vtec valve cover
Thanks again!

Also have spent a lot of time lately just polishing up and cleaning the engine bay. Fun because its cheap! haha

Removing the tape and excess paint

Also changed my gauges back to amber, just felt cleaner to me than the blue I had it at.
