Day 13 - Arjuna's beloved son, Abhimanyu, is surrounded and slain
Abhimanyu is the son of Arjuna and Krishna's sister, Subhadra. On day 13 of the battle, he falls for some clever battle plans on the part of the bad cousins, and is surrounded. He is bereft of many weapons he'd had on hand, and his last battle is a club fight with Dushasana, his father's second eldest cousin. From the Mahabharata: Hot with anger Dushasana picked up a club of his own and flew at Abhimanyu screaming for him to stand and fight. The two fierce warriors each baying for the other's blood swung their maces high and crashed together like heroes of old, and trading blow for blow they knocked one another to the ground, two murderous foes like banners of Indra cast down in the midst of the fray. But to the glory of the Kurus it was Dushasana who was the first to rise, and he brought down his mace on Abhimanyu's head as the boy tottered to his feet. He reeled beneath the force of the blow, and then at last the deadly son toppled to the ground. He breathed no more. (end quote) - - - - The significant thing is that even though he died he took out many of the enemy.
