1974 Jensen-Healey Roadster

“Triumph Blue” with Ford 302 cu V-8

VIN 16182

History

I bought it while living in Maryland from the original owner in 1983, a USN Pilot who purchased the car in Florida. The original owner is Vince McManaman who purchased it on May 17, 1975 from Foreign & Specialty Sports Car Center, Inc., Pensacola, FL for $7,259.00. I purchased it from Vince on 23 Aug '83. It's serial number 16182. I owned the car until May 23, 2010. I passed on the original 1974 purchase papers and do have the original J-H manual, magazine articles from 1974 on the car, and the Jensen-Healey Story - a book published about the roadster and Interceptor.

The original engine was professionally replaced with a reliable, torquey, Ford 302 V8. The engine fits nicely in the Healey engine compartment and mates to a Ford C-4 (6-band) automatic whose shifter fits perfectly in the original tranny column. Twenty percent stiffer springs were installed and SPAX adjustable gas shocks installed all around. (I also have, still new in the box, stabilizer bars from Delta Motorsports).

The body was professionally sanded down and repainted in 1984. All rust prone areas were replaced (doglegs, rocker panels, floorboards) at the time. The car’s never seen a drop of rain since! The interior has new carpet (with padding). The convertible top and boot are aftermarket replacements from Delta Motorsports, but the original tonneau cover is in the boot.

It’s been a garage-kept ever since.

What it has

    • Body is in excellent condition. The belly pans and doglegs were professionally replaced with rust-resistant auto body allow.
    • Paint is also in great condition. The car has always been garaged and has fewer than driving miles since painting.
    • The wheels are ORIGINAL and in very good shape. If you're looking for a set five original wheels, this car has 'em.
    • Interior trunk and passenger spaces have been sealed with rust-proof primer and painted.
    • New black carpet and padding from Delta Motorsports has already been laid in all but the driver's floor board. The carpet has yet to see the open road!
