  • A placemat is a protective table pad usually made of paper, plastic or cloth for restaurants and households. Asian-style placemats may feature thin slats of bamboo or colourful beads. The term is derived from the mat being put at a person's "place" (chair) at a table.

  • ticket: issue a ticket or a fine to as a penalty; "I was fined for parking on the wrong side of the street"; "Move your car or else you will be ticketed!"
  • A sum of money exacted as a penalty by a court of law or other authority
  • all right: being satisfactory or in satisfactory condition; "an all-right movie"; "the passengers were shaken up but are all right"; "is everything all right?"; "everything's fine"; "things are okay"; "dinner and the movies had been fine"; "another minute I'd have been fine"
  • money extracted as a penalty

Viola - the pressed placemat.
Viola - the pressed placemat.
Note - the pins are still in the opening - these are fine (very thin) silk pins with glass heads. So on this heavier fabric, I just pressed right over them. If you have thick stem pins or plastic head pins - do not iron over them. You can press the hole and shape of fat pins in the fabric. Plastic heads will melt onto your fabric or iron and ironing board. Yucky!

placemats
i love them but they could be an inch or two wider. I bought $1 a yard fabric at walmart that was "unknown fabric content" but felt like upholstery fabric. I washed it first to see if it would get gross but was fine so I sewed these. They match my napkins perfectly!
