  • Used to manually turn on an automatic valve. a bleed valve is located on or near the top of the valve. It can be a small screw, a lever, or built into the solenoid. When turned, the bleed valve allows water to flow out of the cavity over the internal diaphragm of the valve.

This is 1 of 4 bleed valves on a IAE V2500 engine. These valves are fitted to the High Pressure Compressor to improve engine starting and also prevent engine surge when the compressor is operating at off- design conditions. Remember, this engine could develope up to 33500 lbs of thrust if rated.

Bleed valve top left in this photo was opened. It fizzed for about 5 seconds before gurgling up water though the pipe leading downwards was relatively cool compared to the other 22mm pipework.
