Final day of our weekend cold-snap. I think most of the city is ready to give up and move further south about now. Personally, I'm enjoying the cold -- I miss proper winters and sitting near the fire. I remember the old wood burning stove we had in the house I grew up in, now that thing would put out some heat. It certainly beat the baseboard electric heaters we had but it was prone to developing chimney fires, which would be dealt with by beating on the exhaust pipe after the thermometer stuck to it reached a certain temperature. But I remember waking up in the middle of the night, feeling safe that it was downstairs, the fire still burning and keeping us warm and safe from the cold outside. Sadly, our current little fireplace will never match that, especially with the strange artificial logs my wife bought a number of years ago. It's more of an aesthetic thing now than to provide warmth. Now to make it though tonight without the pipes freezing. Our neighbors had theirs freeze this morning. One thing about living down here is the lack of insulation to prevent simple things like that...

This is the corner where the pack n play will go. We registered for the Rainforest one and I noticed someone bought it for us!! It's so exciting. Those are the baseboard heaters. I'm glad we don't have those huge radiators that some people have. It's hard enough to place furniture with these. That row of darker color at the top is wallpaper. We are no longer surprised by the crazy stuff we find in our 1911 house. We had no idea we were painting over wallpaper (that had been long painted over). But it was put on there very well and is not peeling anywhere. Mr. Lemon has since finished putting up the crown molding painted in the same color as the baseboards. We didn't want to paint over the woodwork. It's so beautiful.
