Pose a scientific question, keeping in mind what can be tested by science. 2. Design and execute their own experiment using appropriate equipment and measuring techniques. 3. Report and/or communicate their experimental findings and scientific understanding in

appropriate manner. 4. Gain an introductory understanding of the concepts and skills related to the chemistry of life, cells and cell processes, genetics, evolution, classification, the kingdoms, the human body, and ecology. Estimating, selecting the proper equipment, and the use of the SI system.
Use of the microscope.
Human genetics.
Variation and selection leading to changes in populations over time.Classification of species and use of dichotomous keys.
Human body systems.
• Organism interactions, food webs, biomes, energy relationships.
Course Description: Welcome to Honors Biology! This year we will cover many exciting topics. This is an inquiry-based class that combines traditional teaching techniques such as lecture with hands-on techniques to increase student involvement and understanding. All content covered in this course is tied to the Kent School District Student Learning Objectives (SLO’s) and/or the georgia standards. Grading Scale Academic Grading A = 93-100% C = 72-77% Tests and Quizzes 25% A- = 90-92% C- = 70-71% Homework/In-class 20% B+ = 88-89% D+ = 67-69% Labs/Lab reports 25% B = 82-87% D = 60-66% Projects/Presentations 15% B- = 80-81% F = 0-59% Current Events 10% C+ = 78-79% Employability 5%
*Grades such as 89.5 will be rounded up to he next highest digit. *Extra credit may only raise a student’s grade 3% overall if that.

Attendance Policies • Students must participate in classroom activities and attend 85% (77 days) of a class per semester to receive credit for the class. TardiesIt is your responsibility to arrive to each class on time each day. Tardies are defined as late arrival to class during the first ten (10) minutes of class. Consequences for tardies are as follows:1st Tardy: First and last warning. 2nd Tardy: Teacher assigns 1 hour of detention.3rd Tardy: Teacher assigns 2 hours of detention. 4th Tardy: Referral to the administration, will assign minimum of Sat. School. At the fourth and for each subsequent tardy to class, the student will be referred to the Assistant Principal for corrective discipline and/or suspension from class.
