5 16 Hex Wrench

A hex key (also known by various synonyms) is a tool of hexagonal cross-section used to drive bolts and screws that have a hexagonal socket in the head (internal-wrenching hexagon drive).

Thankfully, though it wasn't even a full 3/4" sheet, the plywood held up to the insert nuts. I don't think plywood is the true, intended home for these things, and there was a light bit of creaking every now and then. The last one I put in on the other side actually saw the board widen up a bit, but overall, it worked out quite well. Hooray. Insert nuts, btw, are little tubes with big thread sections outside, and machined threads inside for accepting bolts. The top few internal threads are cut to a hex shape (you can kind of see this in the nut sunk in the foreground), and that lets you use a hex wrench to turn them in place, as I'm doing in the background.
