ZIP - "Compressed" - A file made as small as possible, without it becoming lost.

There is an enormous potential for change in schools and the job market as computers and the internet have come into play.  A business man in Japan can work for an American company while still residing in Japan.  Using the internet and his computer as the key communication sourse he is able to be in two places at once.  In addition to the job market, the education field has shared similar instances through video chat, and recording class sessions online.  Students may not physically attend a class but can log onto to class websites to participate with the class or watch a recorded session that they may have missed.

GOOGLE SITES: If you get stuck when you're trying to modify your website while using Googe Sites, just go to Google and do a search on "Google Sites Manual" and that will take you to websites such as Scribd.com, where you can get a printout of the Google Sites Instructions

AUP -
Acceptable Use Policy: is a set of rules used by the school district to limit the network access to students in public schools. All schools have an AUP policy, which restricts access to certain website that the district finds inappropriate for students during school hours (such as myspace, facebooks, yahoo, etc).
Picasa is a photo editing software that also has photo organizing tools as well for the creation of web albums.  Although it was created by Idealab, Google has owned the rights to the software since 2004 and offers it as a free download.  In order for editing and organizing functions to work properly in this software the files should be converted to JPEG's.  The following links provide more detailed information about Picasa as well as a review of the product:
HOW TO MOVE PHOTOS FROM PUBLIC TO PRIVATE STORAGE
I have Picasa downloaded into my computer which is not public and is not Picasa Web. So in order to create a public album, you go to your personal Picasa storage on you computer, and create an album.  To create an album you click on the tiny icon that is a book with a plus sign beside it.  Title it and drag and drop your pictures into the sidebar album you just created. Top right hand corner there is an icon that says sync to web. Click on that it will take you right to Picasa Web Albums (Public).  Now once in Picasa Web Albums you have to make the album public.  Open the album by double clicking on it, and then on the right side a box will open with privacy options.  Pick public and close. Then you can copy this public vieable URL album.

Compressing files
When you want to compress a file, you right click on your mouse. Compressing a file is when you take many files and turn it into one file, called a zip. A zip file is a file that becomes as small as possible without getting lost. Compressing files really helps keep your files neat and tidy.

You can download pictures to your albums on Picasa by placing your photos on iPhoto.  Once on iPhoto, you can export the pictures to your Picasa account and create a new album or place the photos into an existing album.  This always you to download files of pictures quickly into photo albums from your USB connectors.

When you first arrive at class you want to remember to sign in on the attendance roster.  To do this you go onto the main website: http://www.csun.edu/science/courses/514.  Once your there look on the right hand side where it says ASSESSMENTS.  You will see grading and attendance.  Click on attendance and then enter your name.  You will also see a tab that allows you to let the professor know if you are keeping up with the class or are an assignment behind.  Lastly, there is a space for any comments or questions that you want answered.  Once you have completed this you can click submit and then you will be checked into class.

Formative Assessment

Formative assessments are used by teachers as a way to quickly assess students' comprehension, retention or prior knowledge of content.  Formative assessments can be as simple as having the students raise their hands or give a thumbs up to check for understanding, asking questions or responding to questions, and quick check-ins during group work.  Using the program Elluminate can also provide classrooms with formative assessment activities if you are in a classroom with computers for every student.  Formative assessments are a daily tool for teachers to use for quick checks in how much your students are understanding the material.

Google Maps

A great way to include the location of an event, or an address is to use Google maps.  You can hyperlink to a Google map or a satellite picture of a location by going to Google Browser and then clicking on Web, and then on Google Maps in their toolbar. This will bring up the Home page of Google Maps where it prompts you with a search box to fill in the address or name of the facility desired.  There is a button in the right hand corner for satellite image if you choose a realistic photographic image to appear.  Once you type in the address, then click on the link button found in the upper most right hand corner.  A small window will open with the GPS coordinates already highlighted. Then use Apple-Command C –to copy the coordinates.  Return to your website, and back highlight the text you have chosen for people to click on to find this location, maybe, the name of the facility or address. Then once highlighted, click link and then Apple-Command V to paste in the GPS coordinates.  Then click on the words web address and Command V again to paste in the GPS coordinates. Then you have successfully linked to the Google Map,  and an GO TO LINK address bar will appear under your hyperlink text.

Unfreezing the Computer:
If an application stops responding you can force the application to end by (for Macs) holding command + option+esc, this is the same as if you do a force off on a PC ( control+alt+delete).

Remote Desktop:
Remote access gives the teacher the opportunity to use his or her computer to take over the control of a student's computer and fix a problem the student is having. If done while projecting what is on the computer screen, then the rest of the class can observe the correction and receive more clarity on what the teacher expects of them.

Chroma-keying:
Chroma-keying is a technique for mixing two images or frames together, in which a color (or a small color range) from one image is removed (or made transparent), revealing another image behind it. This technique is also referred to as color keying, colour-separation overlay, greenscreen, and bluescreen. In SED 514 class, we removed the Green color of our photos (actually we made it transparent) and thus revealed the scenic photo behind us.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluescreen

Summative assessment:
Summative assessment refers to the assessment of the learning capability of the recipients (students).  After a period, say, two weeks, of teaching and learning, a test, quiz or exam is given to the learner. The test aims to summarize learning up to that point. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summative_Assessment

Understand Microsoft vs Apple "Go Back Command":
While working with multiple windows, there some fundamental difference between Microsoft and Apple's "Go Back" command. In Microsoft, there are two ways to switch windows: (1) clicking the Green Arrow  key on the top left or (2) clicking the existing window bar at the bottom. Whereas, in Apple, there are instances that one do not see the Go Back arrow key.  However, Apple has a useful, short-cut command "Apple + T" which allow one to open and save a new window. Note that in Microsoft, one cannot do the "Control + T" to open a new tap/window. < no link >
