Joy of Cooking: Recipe 7, Espresso Coffee

Joy of Cooking describes, rather than has a recipe for, Caffe Espresso. I love this little Bialetti pot, but there is doubt among those who really care about these things whether or not stovetop equipment like Moka and Bialetti pots really make espresso or whether they are a type of percolator. I have to say it tastes like espresso to me, and I am pleased. My breakfast today must be fiber-themed - shredded wheat and stewed fruit compote. The fruit compote is simple and I always have some on hand: equal parts chopped apple, pears and prunes stewed together in orange juice to cover and plenty of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Will last quite a while in the fridge; no need to eat more than a 1/4 cup at a time. For the record, Recipe #5 is Coffee in Quantity, and as soon as I need to make coffee for 50 people, I will be sure to try it, but I have no use for that much coffee until I reach Recipes #12-16, which are blended coffee recipes that simply require coffee made any way that is convenient.

Blue Retro Pattern Ironstone Crockery Set - The Castillian Collection

A little story about this collection; I was on a day trip with a friend in East Anglia when I bought four cups and saucers and a sugar bowl from this set in a local charity shop for about ?3.50. Around four months later, I was in the Barras market in Glasgow idly gazing over a jumble of crockery when I spied a teapot from the same set. After a bit of digging, I uncovered everything else you can see in this photo for ?8! The set is made in Spain, so it's even more unusual to find two parts of it in two areas of the UK.
