my 50/90 Songs For 2008
The madness that is 50/90. Try to write 50 songs in 90 days. Can you dig it? Sure. I'm game.

The Bedlam Bash!! Evin Wolverton
Cut the Coupons by Josh Belville
Written and recorded pre-midnight on July4, 2008.
Written shortly after Something Fresh and New in lieu of
writing the wacky kid's songs about cat poo.
Rode A Mule, Rode A Mule, Rode A Mule
This song was my first 50/90 collaboration with long-time FAWMER Charlie Cheney. This guy is a great songwriter.
Get You Back (I'll Hit Rewind)
This is the flipside of my collaboration with Charlie Cheney.
I sent him lyrics, he sent me a finished song with music.
So much fun to do it this way. I'm sure we both wrote music
that the other would never think to write, thereby creating
something unique and new.
Hear Me Out
My first ginormous production piece of this round so far. Lots of
guitars, bgvs, bass, drums, lead lines, etc. I like it a lot too.
Run
This song and "Short People" were both written at Mini
Mendez' house while our kids were playing. I'm really
happy with this one. Mini's wife thought this song could
be a big hit on country radio. This is my roughest demo so far.
Short People
Another song written with Mini. The whistle was his idea
and he gave me the line "top shelfin'. Sweet.
I Like To Eat The Chickens
This song is RIDICULOUS. That's why the junior high students
who were in the room at the time of its creation LOVED IT.
Of course, after hearing 50 times they also came to hate it...
The Landscapes Changing (collaboration with Kermy)
This is my first collaboration with Kerry Goulder and I was
really pleased with how it came out. She gave me great words
in a great meter, making it very easy to work with.
Then You Saw Me
This song is a cut and paste Frankenstein. I played 4 or so
measures of one part, sang over it, then repeated with a
different guitar part. I like this song. Loud vocals.

Lucky You with Mini
This song is mostly by Mini Mendez, but he had me create a
bridge. and write the words for the second verse. Mini is
doing the cool cupped vocal sound effect on this one.
Riptide
Another collaboration with Mini (Tuesdays are kids play,
Daddy's Rock day). This one started as a cool little jam
between us and then it evolved into a song within the next
few minutes of us jamming. I came up with the lower verse
part and Mini worked out the chorus.

Meow Meow Meow Meow (7/17/08 4:18 pm)
Written at the request of Kermy's kids who loved Dog Dog Dog Dog but wanted the cat sequel. Here it is.
The Rock Stars As Named By Our Nephew And Son (7/18/08)
THe title may be genius, but the music may let ya' down.
It's actually a pretty little instrumental jam between me
and my brother-in-law Mike. I cut three sections out. This
is more background music. Have a cup of coffee or somethin'.
He's Being Deconstructed (Better Weather) (7/19/08)
This song is a "Crucio" song. Basically, you steal bits and pieces
of fellow musician's songs and make a little mashup. This was
mine.
Growing Up In Many Places (7/19/08 3pm)
Here's a song I played drums and helped arrange with my
brother-in-law Mike. It was fun and we did it spur of the
moment for us.
You're Never Gonna Get Your Way (7/19/08 1pm)
Another song I played with Mike. This time Mike played drums
and I did all guitars and vocals. If you can call my vocals vocals.
Garage rock ala Rode A Mule.
Is This What You Call Free? (7/22/08 finished 12:58 am)
Song written after going on a walk and listening to the Arcade
Fire. This isn't as good as that, but I like it.
Jesus, Help Me In My Unbelief (7/22/08 1:40 am)
I wanted to write "Jesus" by the Velvet Underground. This is my attempt at that.
Except, Perhaps, The Human Heart (7/23/08 12:51 am)
Got this line from the Dean Koontz novel, Cold Fire. It spawned a
song and I thank him for it.
There Was A Man Who Went Down To The Sea (7/22/08 3pm)
Fiona is featured on the drum solo at the end of this song. This
song is merely my attempt to meet my 50 song quota.
I Am The Great Wall of China (7/31/08)
Lyrics from FAWM 08 that never got songified. Here's my first attempt. I'd really like to develop this one more later. It came f ast when I had a few hours before my studio became a bedroom for guests.
Move On (originally recorded a day or two after FAWM) 7/31/08
I'm sure this is cheating, but I'm pulling up an unfinished song
to help me reach my 50 song goal. By any means necessary.
Oh My Gosh, You Don't Know (7/31/08)
I read THIS article on NPR.org about a guy who was doing this "Telephono" thing.
I emailed him and thought it'd be cool to contribute.
He emailed me back.
I said thanks.
He sent me an mp3 with some sounds on it.
I added to it and changed it in the spirit of the thing.
Here's what came out of it.
You Were Like Winter, You Were Like Fall
Sat down at the piano, started playing F5 and C5 and here's
what came out. A sad, sad sounding song.
