Feb 19/2011: It all started with a client who dropped his iPhone 3G, smashing the digitizer. He said that it would take some guy 3 weeks to fix it and sugested I get into iPhone repair. Well I thought that it couldn't hurt to start a new project, and that I could live with myself as long as it was purely for "business and educational" purposes. So a quick search of the local classifieds sourced me a $47 iPhone 3G with an unresponcive screen. I then ordered a replacement screen and a bit of tinkering and a few YouTube vids latter I had a working iPhone! It was an AT&T model so I had to jailbreak and unlock it before it could be used in Canada. So far it's going well. I had to admit, I do like the responsiveness of the screen. Having an issue with Safari closing as soon as it starts...I'll be back in a bit. Turns out that Safari just needed me to update and re-jailbreak the phone. March 9th: I ended up trading the AT&T 3G for a busted White Rogers 3GS. I now know that AS IS can mean much more that what I was lead to believe. Anyhoo, I also picked up another 3GS and have been playing around with that while I wait for parts to come in for the white one. I installed Line2 on it and I am very impressed by the audio quality on Wi-Fi and, for the most part, 3G. I lost a few long distance calls while driving around town, but it's not all that bad of a setup. |
