Drilling string ferrule holes
Drilling string ferrule holes
Having marked the ferrule positions using the bridge, I confirmed my suspicion that the body would not fit under my drill press and that I would have to hand drill. As you can see I don't have a drill guide, which would ensure spot on vertical holes; instead I have improvised with a small engineer's square to sight the drill, plus the bits I'm using tend to pull the hole square. This seems to have worked well, but see the next shot for news of tear out on the guitar's rear.
Screwdriver drill with nippel bit
Screwdriver drill with nippel bit
This is a low power drill/screwdriver I use to give the spoke nippels the first few turns. The bit with it's pertruding end disengauges at the same moment for eash spoke, ensuring all spoke nippels are tightend equally (VERY important!)
