First Cup October 22, 2005

I went out with some friends the night before, so I ended up sleeping most of the day. It was a lazy Saturday spent watching Anime and doing laundry. Ah this is what happens when the girlfriend is out of town. Strangely enough, I didn't really think about having coffee until late in the evening when I was to go to a show in the city. I rummaged through my bag and came up with some Chiapas/Uganda that we had roasted on Thursday. The only apparatus at my disposal was a drip coffee maker of the automatic variety. Does anybody remember the hippie from the Young Ones who couldn't make technology work? That's how I feel about automatic drip coffee machines. Here I am, fancy barista, and the best I can do is Denny's style tea water. I need to build the emergency kit for the car with a press or something. You know, road flares, tire iron and a coffee grinder. Everything thing you need for any situation.

First Cup August 13, 2006

David, Doobie's dad, much like my own father, is full of Firstcup suggestions involving the surrounding topiary achievements. And in this case, I wanted to take him up on the offer. He has this one bush at the Sebastopol house that spurts out these weird purple berry things that look like they will hatch into some crawling alien army. Weird and pretty! I'm afraid I got them a couple of weeks too late. There's always next year. That is, if they haven't taken over... Oh, Sidamo is even good in the drip coffee maker. We had it with dessert last night and I couldn't figure out which was more sweet and delicious, the coffee, or the pie.
