POWER TOOLS RENTALS : INSULATED WRENCH. Power Tools Rentals
VarunRanu Any empty space in New York City usually has a lot of potential. This is especially true if it has been a dead space for a very long time and no one is doing anything to change it. I have lived in a dead end street throughout all my life. Ever since I can remember, there has been an area beyond the dead end behind an open gate. For all the kids that live in the surrounding buildings including me, we have called this area the “Jungle”. This area is always full of weeds, five foot high grasses during the summer. It is the place where balls would never come back from if they ever went over the fence. However, it wasn’t always the “jungle”. According to my parents, there used to be a two family house there, but it burned down on July 4th 1988 after a guy that my parents knew threw a lit roman candle into the house. Ever since that day this lot has been empty. This lot isn’t a small 10 feet by 10 feet, if you measure it, it’s about 100 feet by 75 feet. That’s a big lot. Considering the surrounding areas geography, local architecture, and people, I decided my public art piece will be open to the public to touch and feel. Also, it would be interactive with the public and be free of charge for all. It will be open all year around, seven days a week but will close at night. My public art project is going to be a water gun wall. It will be a two inch thick curvy chrome wall measuring 20 feet high and 50 feet wide. In the wall there will be hundreds of holes where pressured water will squirt out of it and onto the waiting people. This won’t be any ordinary water squirting wall, outside of the wall there will be an inferred heat senor that will scan the area every second to see where the public is standing. This heat sensor will calculate where the people are and will only shoot water out of the holes where the people are standing at. I will create the wall using recycled chrome. All the rest of the components for the wall will be made from recycled or refurbished parts. Also, the flooring which would be of a rubber will also be made of recycled materials. I want this public art project to be very environmentally friendly and “green”. The water used will be filtered and then reused. The water wall would be open from May to the beginning of September and then be used for snow ball fights during the winter and just enjoyment during the rest of the months. In creating this public art work, I would first have a construction company come in and excavate the whole lot making it ground leveled and then pour concrete to form a slab foundation. This would have an estimated cost of $77,000, of which $25,000 would go for the excavation alone. In addition, $5.00 per square foot for materials and labor at 7500sq feet would be $37,500. For the exaction tools on rental at $1,000 a day for 10 days would be $10,000. Then, the internal water piping will be put down with vacuum breakers and the pressuring system would come out to be around $20,000. After that the rubber mating would go over that which would cost me $10.08 per square foot at a total cost of $10,080 and finally the Aluminum (Chrome) wall would cost $600 Per Foot, so 1,000 square foot aluminum chrome would cost about $6,000,000. Also, add in an extra $2,000 for the stainless steel plates to cover the lot at $2.3516 per foot. This would be a total cost of $7,100,000. The relationship of this piece is that my public art project is contrasting with the surroundings. If you were to stand at the entrance of the lot and see the wall when it was done, you would see apartment buildings all around expect one, one family house that will be right behind the lot. Other than that one single house you have many six story apartment buildings all around the lot. Even right next to the lot there is a seven story apartment building in progress. Six story buildings can measure up to a hundred feet high were as my wall will only be twenty feet high, only 1/5th the height of the building. The significance of this piece is that other than being a piece of public art, I want a place where kids can go during the summer when they can’t afford to go to a water theme park. It’s the kind of fun you can have with your friends and family without spending anything. You can just walk down the street or down a few flights of stairs and wait to get in. You’ll have more fun at my water wall than any other water theme park. Also expect playing in the streets you can come here and play the whole day. The format of the water wall will be horizontal rectangle. It will be a very simple shiny chrome color almost like a mirror. The wall will also be proportional to surroundings not over powering or too small compared to the buildings and the house next doors to the wall. Due to the material being chrome there will be a sense of depth and space due to the reflection of light. The chrome will be curvy but not too ultra modern, just a simple slab of curvy chrome with a lot of holes. Once the excavation and the piping V-Neck Shirt and Power Tools!
