This customer had an existing wine cellar, but it was not conditioned. We installed a split system cooling unit in another mechanical closet, and ran duct work to the cellar. (Cellar not pictured). We were also hired to design and install a wine tasting room (pictured). This room is adjacent to the cellar and is meant to be a place to relax and enjoy great wines. We started with a reclaimed wine barrel flooring. This flooring looks great, and has the stamps from the barrels to add character. We then installed a wainscoting and crown moulding to give it a richer look and feel. The door was removed to a closet, and we installed a half wine barrel into the wall as an art niche. The art niche was finished out with an LED recessed can light. This light gives them an energy efficient fixture that can stay on as an accent light most of the time, while staying cool. We also installed a smoke eater in the ceiling so that the room doubles as a cigar lounge. The smoke eater filters the air, and keeps the smoke from entering the rest of the home. The walls were finished with American Clay natural earth plaster which cleans the air, add negative ions to enlighten moods, and regulates humidity.

The Scardy Cat Shiraz is underway. We cracked out latest wine kit we scored for 35% off because it had the old style box. The Shiraz will come together much like the the Pinot we just bottled. A a few weeks of fermenting and a month of waiting after bottling. This kit contains some fragrant wood shavings (oak maybe?) to help flavor the wine. We are trying to ferment this in our sewing room which is relatively cool so I wrapped the bucket in a electric heater meant for soar muscles and wrapped the heater with double bubble reflectix to help hold temperature. The wine has had no trouble staying at 70F with the air- lock bubbling away after only 12 hours.
