The Program St. Francis/St. Philip / St. Katherine Drexel Parish, located in lower-Roxbury, has a history of over 100 years of service to the people and the neighborhood in which the church is located. The parish is committed to serving the people of the community, irrespective of their religious affiliation. The parish primarily identifies with the poor and marginalized, reaching out to them with "no strings attached." The After School program enrolls approximately 100 neighborhood children ages 5-12. The families served are mostly African American. The parish provides a good program to the economically poor, which allows children a safe environment to play and to get their homework done. The program is sponsored by the church but staffed by neighborhood people who have been involved in an ongoing leadership training program. The after school program has grown to become a tradition in the neighborhood. 4Boston's Role 4Boston volunteers are involved in: • individual tutoring as well as academic help groups for children ages 7-12; • directing activities in sports, art, music, table games, etc. for children ages 5-12; and • reading with children ages 5-12.
