The School The Kennedy Day school is directly attached to the Franciscan Hospital for Children and provides a unique mix of special education, therapeutic, and health services to its students. KDS serves children between the ages of 3 and 22 who have multiple, intensive special needs – encompassing communication, mobility, motor control, vision, hearing, cognition, and/or generally fragile health. Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) may include occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychological services, reading therapy, communicative/assistive technology, speech/hearing/language therapy, music therapy, vocational education, and nursing/health services in addition to more traditional classroom time. 4Boston's Role As mentioned above, at the school, individual volunteers are assigned to an individual classroom and teacher and work fairly independently. Volunteers work as teachers' aids, assisting with class work, recreation, transporting, and, in some cases, helping with daily living skills. While the volunteers work in the classrooms, interaction with children is often one-on-one. Volunteers serve for the entire year. Kennedy Day School requires a lot of hands-on interaction and flexibility on the part of volunteers. Hours The school serves students 8:15AM-2:45PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and 8:15AM-1:30PM on Wednesdays. Volunteers will serve within those time windows. Council
