Jackson-Mann Preschool

Jackson-Mann Preschool

The Program

The preschool program of the Jackson/Mann Community Center provides a safe and nurturing environment for children ages 3 through 6, enabling parents to work or to go to school.  The preschool strives to provide a learning environment that involves the whole family, learning about themselves and the world, so that children develop literacy skills and become responsible citizens with respect for themselves and others.

The Preschool Program serves up to fifty children and their families with learning and recreational activities, counseling services, and parenting information.

4Boston's Role

4Boston volunteers assist classroom staff with various activities throughout the day, such as making breakfast or afternoon snack, cutting/gluing/copying to prepare for assignments, etc.  Volunteers also interact with the children by reading to them, participating in art projects, helping to supervise (and have fun) on the playground and on field trips.  Volunteers act as playmates, as helpers, and as reliable actors in the children’s and the teachers’ lives.

Hours

Monday to Friday, 8 am to 12 pm and 2 to 6 pm .  4Boston volunteers work one, four-hour block of time every week: either 8 am – 12 pm OR 2 pm – 6 pm.  The children nap from 1:30 to 3 pm daily.  Volunteers going for the afternoon shift can expect to make snack, help the teachers, or sit and talk/read quietly to a child not sleeping between 2 and 3 pm .
