Founded
in 2002, ACEDONE is a non-profit community organization committed to
empowering Somalian refugees and their families through education. With
offices and classrooms in Eliot Square in Roxbury, ACEDONE serves over
150 families each week through an after-school program, adult education
program, and a summer enrichment program.
4Boston's
Role
4Boston
volunteers will each be given a group of 5-7 students and will work
with ACEDONE staff, the 4Boston council member, and fellow ACEDONE
volunteers in developing and carrying out a writing and language arts
program. Volunteers will remain with the group of students for the
duration of the semester, monitoring academic progress and behavior.
Specifically, volunteers will offer homework help for the first hour of
volunteering, carry-out a self/group-designed lesson plan for the
second hour, and supervise individual reading for the third hour.
Hours
Monday-Thursday, 3:00-6:00 PM.
