ACEDONE

Placement:

Founded in 2002, ACEDONE is a non-profit community organization committed to empowering Somalian refugees and their families through education. With offices and classrooms in Eliot Square in Roxbury, ACEDONE serves over 150 families each week through an after-school program, adult education program, and a summer enrichment program.

4Boston's Role

4Boston volunteers will each be given a group of 5-7 students and will work with ACEDONE staff, the 4Boston council member, and fellow ACEDONE volunteers in developing and carrying out a writing and language arts program. Volunteers will remain with the group of students for the duration of the semester, monitoring academic progress and behavior. Specifically, volunteers will offer homework help for the first hour of volunteering, carry-out a self/group-designed lesson plan for the second hour, and supervise individual reading for the third hour.
