    placemats
  • A placemat is a protective table pad usually made of paper, plastic or cloth for restaurants and households. Asian-style placemats may feature thin slats of bamboo or colourful beads. The term is derived from the mat being put at a person's "place" (chair) at a table.

piecing together the grip
piecing together the grip
The placemat I am using had a plus-shaped (+) weave to it (the plastic fibers were heat sealed to each other, so it wouldn't unravel.) In order to get the (X) shaped weave I wanted for the grip, I had to turn it diagonally. This meant having to sew some triangle shaped sections to complete the total grip. I suppose I could have just cut multiple rectangular shaped pieces, using maybe two placemats, but I didn't want to waste the material as it cannot be replaced.
Weaving
Weaving
The weaving I did. I did the row of circles at the top. The ones that are actually round. Yeah, I rule--this is the third time I've ever done weaving. :P
