Knife's Edge From Afar
Knife's Edge and The Chimney, Mount Katahdin, T2 R9 WELS, ME Knife's Edge is probably one of the most technical and difficult climbs in Maine. It traverses the spine of this mountain where there is a more than 1,000 foot drop off on either side. At one point, the trail narrows to just 4 feet. You think to yourself, if I make one careless mistake and slip---I'm dead. Period. Now that's scary. The climb from Pamola Peak to the other side of Chimney took about 1.5-2 hours, and it's only 0.25 miles! You actually scale the rocks and use all of your body to maneuver up and down The Chimney.
