Pressure Safety Valve Animation
safety valve
- A valve opening automatically to relieve excessive pressure, esp. in a boiler
- A safety valve is a valve mechanism for the automatic release of a substance from a boiler, pressure vessel, or other system when the pressure or temperature exceeds preset limits. It is part of a bigger set named pressure safety valves (PSV) or pressure relief valves (PRV).
- a valve in a container in which pressure can build up (as a steam boiler); it opens automatically when the pressure reaches a dangerous level
- A means of giving harmless vent to feelings of tension or stress
- The safety valve is a provision in the Sentencing Reform Act and the United States Federal Sentencing Guidelines that authorizes a sentence below the statutory minimum for certain nonviolent, non-managerial drug offenders with little or no criminal history.
animation
- The state of being full of life or vigor; liveliness
- The technique of photographing successive drawings or positions of puppets or models to create an illusion of movement when the movie is shown as a sequence
- the property of being able to survive and grow; "the vitality of a seed"
- the condition of living or the state of being alive; "while there's life there's hope"; "life depends on many chemical and physical processes"
- quality of being active or spirited or alive and vigorous
- The state of being alive
pressure
- the force applied to a unit area of surface; measured in pascals (SI unit) or in dynes (cgs unit); "the compressed gas exerts an increased pressure"
- The force exerted per unit area
- coerce: to cause to do through pressure or necessity, by physical, moral or intellectual means :"She forced him to take a job in the city"; "He squeezed her for information"
- a force that compels; "the public brought pressure to bear on the government"
- The continuous physical force exerted on or against an object by something in contact with it
- The use of persuasion, influence, or intimidation to make someone do something
Blowlamp and filling funnel
This blowlamp was made for the War Department and used at East Fortune Airfield in East Lothian. In 1945 it was acquired by a local plumber who used it in his trade until he retired. It could be used to soften lead for working or to solder joints in lead or copper piping. Blowtorch with a brass paraffin reservoir with a bracket steel handle. On the top there is a safety valve, pump assemblage and burner assemblage, the last exhibiting heat tarnish. A soldered plate records dated test data; stamped SH&S, BRITISH MADE 1940. This blowlamp relies on a steady stream of vaporised paraffin to feed the flame (the same principle used in Primus stoves). In operation, this was sustained by heat conduction warming the reservoir. On lighting, however, the reservoir had to be primed by hand pumping. A safety valve prevented dangerous pressure build-ups. Accession number - 2000.334.5/6
