Stellite Valve Seats
valve seats
- (Valve seat) The valve seat in an internal combustion gasoline or diesel engine is the surface against which an intake or an exhaust valve rests during the portion of the engine operating cycle when that valve is closed.
- (Valve Seat) That area of the quick-action coupling that comes in contact with either the ball or poppet valve, allowing a positive sealing surface. Shape and surface varies with valve style.
stellite
- a very hard alloy of cobalt and chromium with cobalt as the principal ingredient; used to make cutting tools and for surfaces subject to heavy wear
- Stellite alloy is a range of cobalt-chromium alloys designed for wear resistance. It may also contain tungsten or molybdenum and a small but important amount of carbon.
- Also called #6 Stellite or Alloy 6. A material used in valve trim known for its hardness, wear and corrosion resistance. Stellite is available as a casting, barstock material and may be applied to a softer material such as 316 stainless steel by means of spray coating or welding.
1996 Jeep Cherokee cylinder head crack
This is a crack in the cylinder head of a 1996 Jeep Cherokee. The crack is obvious in the picture but just in case it's the uneven line running from the left side of the exhaust seat, a bit into the exhaust passage, back across the seat, between the valve seats and down into the intake passage.
