Water Stop Valve
water stop
- A water stop or water station on a railroad is a place where trains stop to replenish water. The stopping of the train itself is also referred to as "water stop". The term originates from the times of steam engines, when large amounts of water were essential.

- Pausing to lose some water.

- A device for controlling the passage of fluid through a pipe or duct, esp. an automatic device allowing movement in one direction only
- A membranous fold in a hollow organ or tubular structure, such as a blood vessel or the digestive tract, that maintains the flow of the contents in one direction by closing in response to any pressure from reverse flow
- A cylindrical mechanism in a brass instrument that, when depressed or turned, admits air into different sections of tubing and so extends the range of available notes
- a structure in a hollow organ (like the heart) with a flap to insure one-way flow of fluid through it
- control consisting of a mechanical device for controlling the flow of a fluid
Project 365 #271: 280910 Check And Double Check
A very busy night doing things that really can't be left undone any longer meant that I didn't take this photo until after I'd shut my computer down, hence no update for the day! One of the jobs, and one of the first ones tackled, was the installation of this wee beasty. It's a 15mm double check non-return valve, which means it's got two sequential valves so that water only flows in one direction - just like a heart...awww. Hopefully this will stop my shower from flooding the house again. It's on test as we speak. :)
Holdsworth Allez Water Bottle
1940s England These elegant cork-stopped aluminum bottles were made with reinforcing ribs to reduce denting and provide a better grip. While early metal water bottles were quite attractive in appearance, it is easy to see why they were quickly made obsolete by squeezable plastic bottles with sealed valve tops.
