| Eagles Cub Scout Pack is for boys and girls aged 8-10½. Meetings are on Wednesdays, term time. The Eagles Cub Pack get up to all sorts of different activities.Variety is the key to the success of the Pack.
Some of the things we have been up to include indoor Camping at Earleywood, cooking Christmas Cakes and Pizza, finding out about other countries involved dressing as Egyptians, exploring our local area by travelling to Wokingham by train, being creative and green at the same time by using recycled items to make games, found out about a charity and met a guide dog and had all the fun of Laser Quest.
A year of the Cub Pack: Outdoor Stuff The pack has had lots of opportunities to learn new things outdoors and also simply to have outdoor fun. In the spring there was successful participation in the District Cub Camp at Walton Firs, with a host of activities such as climbing, caving, obstacle course, soap carving, campfire, fun games and loads more. On a warm summer evening there was a very enjoyable introductory kayaking session at Horseshoe Lake. As the evenings began to draw in the cubs where challenged to be quiet to experience a local bat walk. In the dark of a cool evening navigation skills and stamina where tested on a Night Hike in the woods near the Lookout. Throughout the year opportunities for sporting activities and outdoor games balanced by scouting skills like firelighting and navigation where on offer. Indoor Stuff During the cooler darker months the cubs have learnt about technology involving electrical circuits and also had fun with a remote controlled car. As part of the Global challenge Italy was the inspiration for making pizza and building a tower of Pisa, which of course did lean. To help learn about Egypt the cubs dressed the part and indulged in eating some exotic fruits. A pair of young cricketers instructed the cubs in indoor quick cricket. To satisfy the creative requirements of the programme the cubs have made Christmas cakes, decorated pots for Mothers Day gifts and designed and made fabric decorative panels as part of a sound deadening project. There have been lots of games too along the way. A Wider World Visits to the pack by interesting people have included a dog walker from Guide Dogs for the Blind. This gave the cubs the chance to meet a guide dog up close and in a controlled environment. A parent whose hobby is astronomy was kind enough to show the cubs Jupiter through his amazing telescope. A very different experience was afforded to the cubs by taking them by train to Wokingham, walking to Burger King for chips then back on the train, what else? There have also been opportunities to take part in community events like the Act of Remembrance at Sandhurst War Memorial and St Georges Parade at the RMA Chapel. |
