Beaver Scouts (6-8 years) meet on Mondays

Beavers is for both boys and girls, there are opportunities for nights away, fun days out, a variety of activities for weekly meetings including games, crafts, cooking, projects towards badges, talks from policemen and nurses, etc. Plus this year in 2012 there are 2 different camps, one in May and one in September.

This summer term we will mostly we doing Air Activities, and lots of outdoor things.

3rd Sandhurst Beaver Colony – News

May 2012

For their part in Scout Community Week, May 13 - 20th 2012, the Beavers planted and grew on sunflower seeds in pots.  These pots where then taken to Broadway House and planted in the grounds for the eventual benefit of the residents. Beavers also provided planted flower troughs.  The Beavers walked in the sunshine from the Scout hut to Broadway House and back, and looked very smart in high viz jackets over their uniforms.  They where rewarded for their hard work with a drink and a biscuit.

Congratulations Beavers

December 2010:

Well done to Harry and William for gaining all of the Beaver badges.  This is a first for the Coloney.

Monday 19th April

We welcomed most of our Beavers back tonight although one was still stuck in sunny climes due to the ash cloud!!
Our four new Beavers all turned up and we hope they enjoyed themselves enough to want to come back!!
The weather was great so out we went and played some games in the sunshine. We then started out Imagination theme by listening to some music and getting the Beavers ideas on what the music made them think of. drawings followed with some fantastic results!!
The Imagination theme will continue over the next few weeks, hopefully with the great outdoors being used for games and activities.
We also were entertained by Nicholas' DVD on his tropical fish and how he looks after them which earned him the Animal Friend badge.

Winter Term – January – April 2010

We came back after Christmas all raring to go after the break. It was nice to see so many Beavers return on the first night, albeit a postponed first night because of the snow!!

Our first half term period was spent trying to work on the Healthy Eating badge and also on Health and Fitness. Some of the Beavers had already achieved the Healthy Eating on their own, but we decided that we would try and get as many of the others as possible and incorporate this with their Health and Fitness.

The H&F requires the Beavers to learn a little about personal hygiene, what foods are good for them, and what foods are not so good, also why being active is important and what exercise means to our bodies. Hopefully we managed to get through to as many as possible. We set them all a little homework so that they had to do some things for themselves to be able to qualify for the badges. If any of the Beavers are still outstanding these and want to complete the tasks then please come and see me and I will let you know what we need to see them complete.

In January we welcomed Ethan as a new starter and after half term we were joined by Oliver, Peter and Nicholas.

With four new faces we have said goodbye to four familiar ones who all moved up to Cubs at half term on the 8th Feb, they being Luke, Nick, Ben and Kris who are all doing well in Cubs.

The second half of the term has been taken up with Air Activities, making paper air planes, and playing games with an aircraft theme.

We have also had a couple of nights which were mostly ‘craft’ nights concentrating on Mothering Sunday in which Beavers all decorated some glass jars in their own personal way to create a present for mum. Hopefully they kept their promise for breakfast in bed for mum!!  We have also had a night dedicated to Easter crafts with Angela taking centre stage for both the crafty nights.

We finished the term off by saying good bye to both Christian and Louis who have moved onto Cubs.

Looking forward to the Summer Term, we hope to welcome Rhiannon, Mikey, Connor and Jack after Easter and later after half we will bid a farewell to William and Ben.

We will be doing some activities geared toward Imagination, and hopefully with good weather we will be spending some time outside in the evenings.

With the longer nights we really do need our parent helpers as much as possible. Our young helpers, Charlotte and Lara, who are with us doing their community service part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, and Stefan with us from Scouts, are on exam time now and we probably will be without them a few nights between now and the end of the school year, so for us to do anything outdoors we do need to have the extra supervision. Please feel free to ask if we need extra help and if you can stay.
