Redid the shot based on the feedback. Used Tungsten WB and f/1.8 for this shot. Pictured is a Kondapalli toy (Lord Ganesh) made out of Soft wood. I have visited this place, Kondapalli (close to my home town, Vijayawada) when i went to India last time and had fun looking at their craftsmanship and how difficult it is to make each of them. These toys and dolls made out of the light species wood locally known as white Ponike wood, offer a variety of toys that arouse the interest of children as well as elders. Naturally seasoned wood suitably chiseled and joined with the paste of tamarind seeds, painted with brush made out of goat's hair in earthen colours as well as oil colours offer the themes from day to day life, such as occupational toys, birds & animals and with religious motifs such as Krishna Leela and Dasavatara. Here goes.... well I've done a couple of smaller ones before but I made a couple of mistakes on these. On the first one I didn't take the advice of using your nearest chisel size as the width of your mortice/tenon. This made it difficult because I had to make two cuts down the thin side and I couldn't use the chisel to measure the width of the mortise, as a result I took too much wood out. I don't think they are going to be very tight fitting. Bummer. I'll just have to see how it goes. Pam's photo btw. Phil.
