The layout is built to a scale of 3mm to 1ft and a track gauge of 12mm. It is is available for exhibition within (ideally) a two hour drive from Nottingham where it is based. It depicts the now disappeared station in the town of Uppingham in Rutland around 1960 when the line was just about to be closed to passenger traffic, before being closed completely in 1964. It is made as accurately as possible using a limited amount of photographs and drawings, however, the overall effect is more important to me than running to strict prototype practice, so some running ‘licence’ is adopted from time to time. There are no bright garish colours on the layout as have tried to depict the dull, grimy ambience of railways which was prominent during the steam era.

It measures 16ft x 2ft approximately, splits into four sections, and has it’s own legs and lighting gantry. It requires two to three operators ideally with a 2ft minimum depth behind the layout and requires a Transit sized van to transport it. Depending on distance, overnight accommodation may also be required (two rooms to accommodate the full team).
