3M has had a great week. We cannot believe how quickly June is approaching!
Students are really excited to explore more about their mammals. This week, we made predictions after looking at teeth, learned about what our mammals might eat after observing model scat, and making decisions on whether the animal was an herbivore, omnivore, or carnivore.
Students are finishing up their poetry collections. We are excited to share our poems with you at our LAST FAMILY BREAKFAST on JUNE !2! Our room parents will be sending out more details shortly.
We are continuing to practice our multiplication facts in lessons and games through 10 X 10. Students are also using the facts they know to explore and try harder two-digit multiplication problems.
We read Paul Revere's Midnight Ride (Stephen Krensky) and discussed Paul Revere's important role in the American Revolution. We also have learned about the many jobs he used to have. Did you know he made false teeth? We will be experts when we visit his house in a few weeks.
TWO IMPORTANT REMINDERS: We still need more chaperones for our June field trips to the Franklin Park Zoo and Paul Revere's house. PLEASE email me if you can join us!
Also, next week ALL library books are due back to Ms. Neale. If you are unsure if your student has books checked out/overdue books, email Amy or me and we can help you.
IMPORTANT DATES: Monday, May 28 - No School - Memorial Day Friday, June 1 - (last) Community Meeting Tuesday, June 12 - End of the Year Family Breakfast (7:50am) Wednesday, June 13 - Franklin Park Zoo Field Trip Thursday, June 14 - Paul Revere Field Trip Monday, June 18 - Last Day of School **If your child is leaving school before the last day, please let me know!

3M had a great week. We are continuing to review multiplication strategies and explore using easy facts to help us with break apart larger numbers. We also have spent time making observations of our mammal skulls. We have made some predictions about what the mammals are. We also enjoyed our food experiment where we explored HOW we ate and WHAT teeth we used to chew different kinds of food.
Next Tuesday, the 3rd grade will be visiting the Brookline Department of Public Works. This is a field trip sponsored by the Town of Brookline. We will leave in the morning and should return by 10:45. Students will not need anything special for this field trip.
We are conitnuing to plan for our two field trips in June -- to the Franklin Park Zoo and Paul Revere's house. We NEED chaperones to help us on these trips! Please email me if you are interested!!! We would love to have you join us!

Dear 3M and Families,
I would like to take the opportunity to thank each and every one of you for being part of what has been the greatest teaching and learning experience during my time in the classroom. I am so honored to have gotten to know and teach the students of 3M. For the time I was there, I saw the students grow, mature, and become more confident in their learning. I will really miss all my interactions with the students but I promise I will come visit in the near future!
Best,
Ms. Tso |

We are so proud of our students and their MCAS tests! Students worked incredibly hard to prepare and did a great job. Everyone enjoyed our celebration today.
Next week we will begin a strong focus on multiplication. Students will be solidifying facts and exploring more about multiplication/division fact families. Students are enjoying Love That Dog and are creating more poems to add to their personal collections.
We also started our new Mystery Mammals unit where students are using their observation skills to determine what characteristics certain mammals have
We will have Community Meeting next Friday - May 18th at 8:15am. 4W will be hosting.
Thank you for signing all of the permission slips we sent home last week. We would love to have chaperones join us on our trips to the Zoo and Paul Revere's house. Please email me if you are interested!

Today we had the mural dedication ceremony. We celebrated Driscoll's 100th year with singing, special readings, and honoring everyone who contributed to creating the mural.
3M was very busy this week! We continued reading Love That Dog (by Sharon Creech) and exploring the question: "What makes a piece of writing poetry?" Students have been writing many of their own wonderful poems based on poems from this book - we call this "using mentor texts." We also spent Tuesday at Frederick Law Olmsted's house - Fairsted - learning about who Frederick Law Olmsted was and why he is so important. Students really enjoyed the trip, even though we had some wet weather. We also started our new science unit on mammals. Check out next week's update for more information about this exciting science unit.
We also continued talking about and preparing for the Math MCAS test next week by reviewing strategies and completing practice problems. We will have a Practice MCAS test on Monday morning. The MCAS test will be on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 8th and 9th. Please help your student be prepared by making sure he/she does the following:
- Get a good night's sleep. - Eat breakfast. - Be on time for school. - Bring a water bottle, healthy snack, and a book (or 2) for after the test.
There will also be no spelling/math homework next week. Students are still expected to read 30 minutes each night.
We will celebrate the end of MCAS with a special afternoon activity on Friday.
Have a great weekend! |

We had a great first week back. The students in 3M are working very hard. In math we finished our Geometry Unit. We will continue practicing for the Math MCAS next week. Students will have practice problems to complete for homework next week as well.
Our Driscoll Memories are displayed in the hallway for the Writing Festival. If you haven't had a chance to read them yet make sure you stop by.
Today's field trip to the Old South Meeting House was so much fun. Students re-enacted the historical debate about the tea tax that lead to the Boston Tea Party and eventually to the American Revolution. Each student played the part of either a Loyalist or a Patriot. They were amazing actors and really did a wonderful job.
Next week is going to be a busy week. In honor of Driscoll's 100th year, we will be having a Spirit Week. Each day students can show their school spirit by participating in the below events.
Monday: PJ Day Tuesday: All one color day Wednesday: Crazy hat or hair day Thursday: Costume Day (no masks or weapons) Friday: Fancy Outfit Day
We will also have a special celebration on Friday at 10AM when we unveil the mural outside. Please join us if you can.
Important Dates:
Tuesday, May 1st - Frederick Law Olmsted Field Trip
Thursday, May 3rd - Early Release @ 12:30 May 8-9 - Math MCAS |

Wow! What an incredible two days! Arts Equinox was a blast! Students in 3M made their own erasers, saw an opera performed by the Boston Conservatory, and enjoyed our own performances at Kids For Kids! We tapped into our creative sides when making zoetropes, mosaics, and comic characters. We also practiced our hula hooping skills. Students had a great time and we had many interesting conversations about art!
We really need one or two chaperones for our trip to the Old South Meeting House when we return from break! It is on Friday, April 27th. It is $7 + T fare. Though I will have limited access to email over break, please email me if you are interested.
Have a wonderful April Break! :) |

We have continued our geometry unit in math. Next week we will focus on naming polygons and categorizing them by different attributes. We also have enjoyed writing and sharing poetry for National Poetry Month.
Students have been working hard on their habitat projects this week. We are encouraging students to find reusable or recycled materials to use in their diorama if they need it. We have lots of supplies from my art bin, and a lot that students have brought in to school. Many students have initiated a sharing system, which has been very helpful for the whole class. The dioramas are amazing so far!
We will have a family breakfast on Thursday, April 26 to share about our Habitat Unit.

It has been a great week! Students have enjoyed their time with Ms. Tso working on habitat research, poetry, and learning all about King George!
Next week we will be starting a new math chapter all about Geometry. This chapter has a lot of vocabulary associated with polygons, prisms, and pyramids.
Our normal spelling homework will be put on hold until after April break. We will be focusing on the math vocabulary during this time.
Final call for shoeboxes! If you have any lying around, please bring them in early next week. We will be using them to create a diorama showing their habitat. Students are thinking about materials that they may want to bring in to use for their project to show their habitat, plant, and animal. We have paint, paper, coloring utensils, and other common art supplies. Students are encouraged to bring things from home if they want. Nothing special needs to be purchased to do this project.
Also, if you have not had a chance to sign up for conferences, please do so! Click HERE to see the schedule. If you can't access the document, you can either sign up on the paper copy outside of our room or email me for a list of open slots.
Students are coming home with a field trip form for a trip to the Frederick Law Olmsted National Park. Please return this form ASAP! (I know the date says it was due today -- please ignore that and turn it in ASAP!) Chaperones are not needed for this trip. There are upcoming field trips where we DO need chaperones. Look for our update next week for information about chaperones for future field trips.
These next few weeks, we have a VERY busy school schedule. Please be aware of the following:
