Marblewood (marmaroxylon racemosum) is an exotic species from northeastern South America, Guyana and the Andaman Islands. This timber has heartwood of yellow and golden brown tones with irregular streaks of brown, black, and purple bands throughout the surface creating a marble like appearance. Marblewood is considered a hard, strong timber; however it is used primarily for its decorative appearance rather than its strength. Woodworkers will find Marblewood difficult to work by hand and a little easier with carbide tipped power tools, however with patience it can be brought to a beautiful finish with depth, almost three dimensional qualities. Cabinet making, wood turning, fine furniture, veneers & flooring are just a few of the many uses for exotic marblewood.
